Will likely be at a neutral site, and will likely be at the XCel Energy Center

I thought the NCHC had the inside track to holding their tournament at the Xcel?

Well ****. There goes my hope the NCHC Tournament would be there and I could attend more often than not

They'll put you at MSG, since you're a big time conference and all. ;)

So let me get this straight... "Neutral ice" in the backyard of one program, somewhat far from another program, and prohibitively far from the rest of the programs.

If true, it's a farce. Of all the locations one could consider... St. Paul? Are there no hockey rinks in, say, Chicago?

It sounds like they plan to move it around. St Paul first then maybe Detroit, then Columbus, Milwaukee, Pittsburg,....
Don't get your panties in a bunch.

p.s. If this IS the case, then UM and MSU get the advantage that Detroit would host twice as often as any other city.

Seriously, if it's this big of a deal, play it at Joe Louis Arena, but keep it In a current BTHC market.

I can completely understand his argument tho. If it were in MI im sure many of us would have something to say about it? I dont know, the X is really **** quick to getting these, maybe they're greasing some pockets? I like it :)

I'd rather play it in Alaska than Chicago.

Seriously, if it's this big of a deal, play it at Joe Louis Arena, but keep it Ina current BTHC market.

I agree with this, f-chicago! Until they decide to go BIG, no way, i'd rather it rotate around to the BIG cities and keep the money in those locales..

I wouldn't mind of it was at the Joe. I just want it to be in a current BTHC market.

I read your post after i posted, I agree. As long as the $ stays in the BIG market.

Exactly how I feel. Don't reward a market that won't even commit to moving their program up. Especially a fair weather hockey market like Chicago.

Let's run this down. Drive times to Minneapolis to XCel:

Minnesota: ~10 minutes
Wisconsin: ~5 hours
Michigan State: ~11 hours
Michigan: ~11-12 hours
Ohio State: 13 hours
Penn State: 17 hours

2 reasonable alternatives:

Chicago:
PSU: 10 hours; UM: 4 hours; MSU: 4 hours; OSU: 6 hours; Wisconsin: 3 hours; Minnesota: 7 hours

Indianapolis:
PSU: 8 hours; UM: 5 hours; MSU: 5 hours; OSU: 3 hours; Wisconsin: 6 hours; Minnesota: 10 hours

Penn State and Minnesota are always going to be the outliers, but just about evenly so in either Chicago or Indy. Everybody else is roughly about the same, give or take an hour or two. So why is Minneapolis getting this thing again?

1. If you want the tourney? Put in a bid.
2. The X, given its quality status at the PRO level, is more than needed at the collegiate level. That's also a plus.
3. 20K seats? Have an arena that matches that level of capacity AND have that quality.

Simple. Math. (c) Scooby

Aren't the CCHA's in Detroit? Why is it not a problem now, but will be when your team has to travel?

The B1G formed for money. The conference will make more in St. Paul than Chicago. Simple math.
