What is the best possibility for that series? I take it Lake State in 3, then they lose friday, or would that push them ahead still?

If Lake State won at Western in 3 games, then got swept at the Joe, I think Northern would remain ahead of the Lakers in the Pairwise.

Could Northern pass State if Miami sweeps the Spartans?

So...why did the 'cats lose? I remember Walt saying some of them were nervous during the series. Don't tell me BGSU is a good team either, although they had some strong showings towards the end of the year, they still finished dead last in the conference. No excuses, this is flat out unacceptable for this to happen, never mind two years in a row!
Because BG scored more goals than NMU in the last 2 games...sheesh!

I came in to this thread last month and mentioned that BG was playing much better hockey in the second half of the season, trying to strike up a conversation, only to be completely ignored. Either you guys are completely stuck on yourself and have no interest in conversing with fans from other schools or I, being a fan of lowly BG, was unworthy of your attention. Whatever the case, you swept us earlier in February proving your superiority I guess. The Falcons apparantly took exception to that and felt that payback is a good thing, particularly in the playoffs.

I will point a couple of things out. We have 9 freshmen, 9 Sophomores, 5 Juniors, and all of 2 Seniors (who played for 3 different coaches). Of all of the points awarded to BG over the 3 games this past weekend, 20 went to Freshman, 3 to Sophomores, 3 to Juniors, 0 to Seniors. We are young, very young. The Freshman class is Bergeron's first full recruiting class. Out of the Sophomore class, 1 was brought in by Bergeron (Wojtala). Virtually all of our scoring comes from the Freshman and Sophomore class. We have no captains because it was felt by the coaches that no body had stepped up to take that roll, so captains are picked before each game and leadership would be by committee. It has, to say the least, been a learning process for the 2 lower classes and, I'm pleased to say, that the lessons are starting to take hold and we feel that the future looks pretty good right now. (5000+ fans in attendance for our last regular season game is a testament to that belief. A number that we haven't seen in a decade.)

Sorry to end your season a bit early again....but not really.

Will NMU fans be rooting for the Lakers or the Broncos this weekend? Would the Lakers still be behind NMU this weekend in the PWR if they sweep WMU?

I think the Spartans are already in, honestly.

I solicited the advice of someone much smarter than I after batting around NCAA tournament scenarios with Walt on Monday morning.

Here's what Jim Dahl of SiouxSports.com says. Scroll down to the comments section for his thoughts on NMU.

Ok, here's what the models say. This weekend, Northern Michigan is most helped by:
Michigan defeating Notre Dame
Lake Superior defeating Western Michigan
Dartmouth defeating Cornell
Maine defeating Merrimack Credit: Jim Dahl

OK, so I actually have to root for Michigan this weekend? Don't know if I can do that. Don't know if I'm capable of doing that. No, no, no...NO!!!

Go Lakers! Go Big Green! Go Black Bears!

When Dahl says "defeating" does he mean 2 game sweeps by UoM, LSSU, Dartmouth, and Maine?

It would appear that a 2-1 series victory for LSSU would be best for NMU.

Sorry to end your season a bit early again....but not really. BG came up here and played very well and they deserve to be where they are. They are a good young hockey team with a bright future ahead. Chris is a good coach and will really have this team ready to contend when the shift to the WCHA happens in 2 years! Good luck at Ferris!

Thank you! If it makes you feel any better, perhaps it wasn't a fluke since BG just beat FSU in OT! :D

Sorry NMU that we hurt your NCAA tournament chances tonight by losing tonight to WMU.

Sorry NMU that we hurt your NCAA tournament chances tonight by losing tonight to WMU.Still a lot of hockey to be played this weekend, and next. Lots of question marks still. I think it was an ideal situation to have you guys beat WMU, ND lose to Michigan, Merrimack lose to Maine, and Dartmouth beat Cornell.

Other scenarios could still help/hinder.

Michigan, Maine, Bowling Green, Miami, and St. Cloud won tonight! Only bad outcome it Cornell beating Dartmouth in 2OT. Also Tech leads Colorado College 1-0 into the 3rd.

Does anyone know if MSU can move back further than us if they lose to Miami again? Also what happens if BGSU beats ferris again?

It is not possible for Northern to pass State.

You start rooting for BG to lose a game before they move the cut line to 14.

Yep.

And NMU needs LSSU to now beat WMU and advance to the Joe (and do like BGSU and not steal the auto-bid).

The Opponent's Opponent record is what's going to scramble this up. MSU, in my opinion, is riding FSU and WMU's coattails. FSU's strength is hinged on WMU and Eastern Schools. WMU needs help from MSU and UND.

It's all an amazing perfect storm that won't be settled until Sunday. Sunday of the 11th or the 18th. Not sure.
