  • 2011-2012 NCAA Week 2 Rankings

For those of you who have been voting previously, here is the thread to post your "ballot" of top-10 teams. If you have never posted before, but would like to, here is where you post your top-10. If you would like your ballot to be counted, make sure to have your top-10 posted in this thread by Monday (Oct 17) by 1pm Eastern.

    Here is my top 10...

    1. Boston College - Despite a close loss to Denver at home, the Eagles are playing very good hockey. A dominating performance over New Hampshire on Saturday proved that. Also, someone has to be #1 right?
    2. Denver - A tough start to the second period was all it took for Denver to split on the weekend. The Pioneers showed determination and grit in fighting back on Saturday night, after narrowly beating BC at BC.
    3. Colorado College - The Tigers took care of business this weekend, but go on the road for their next five games.
    4. Michigan - The Wolverines are off to a great start, but their schedule has been fairly weak. A trip to Northern Michigan next weekend will give us some insight as to just how good Michigan is this year.
    5. Minnesota - All is well in Gopher land after a sweep at Duluth. Minnesota looks like the Gophers of old tallying ten goals against the Bulldogs. Back to back weekends @ Alaska-Anchorage and then home against North Dakota should give us an even better test of just how good Minnesota is.
    6. Boston University - An unimpressive showing on Friday in the loss to Providence, followed by the victory over Denver shows that the Terriers are a bit inconsistent. Of course, at this point in the year, that can be said for pretty much every team in the country.
    7. Notre Dame - The Irish closed out the Joyce Center on a losing note. This weekend should have seen four points for Notre Dame, instead it showed that the Irish have work to do. The talent is there though.
    8. Yale - Didn't play, so they remain #8 (on my ballot).
    9. Union
    9. Western Michigan - I decided to lump these two together after their sister-kissing affair this weekend. Two draws didn't tell us much about who is better, so it is fair to say that they are equal. It will be interesting to see what these squads do in the upcoming weeks against different competition.

    Honorable Mention:
    Northern Michigan
    Michigan Tech
    Alaska-Anchorage
    North Dakota

As always, comments are appreciated and please post your top-10s.

From what I have seen from Minnesota, they are significantly better than last year. They had some defensive struggles this weekend, but Minnesota Duluth is a team loaded with offensive talent...they'll put up plenty of goals on anyone in the country. I think the Anchorage series and the North Dakota series will tell us even more of where the Gophers are at. Patterson is solid net, and if their defense comes around, they could be scary good. Of course, we're two weekends into the season, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think Minnesota is a top 10 team, and deserving of their ranking.

The offense and goaltending seem to be there, the D needs to improve, but yeah they are better than last years squad.

Wow quite a weekend and I'm sure more of this to come.

            my picks.

            1. DU- even if they did lose, it's hard to pick them behind someone they beat the night before. In my mind the most talent by far of any team.

            2. BC. very good team, will be there in the spring.

            3. CC- Didn't see the games as they blacked out the friday night game here, but Bimidji is pretty good.CC is better at home where they have not only big ice but the altitude in their favor.

            4. Michigan- we'll see after next week if this is deserved

            5. Minnesota- did well against a good team

            6. BU- The loss to PC not withstanding. maybe I'm under-rating PC.

7.Yale- probably better than at least three of the teams above them.

            8. AA- making a believer out of me though it's hard from so far to know.

            9. Notre Dame-- don't deserve it but a lot of talent

            10. Union/WMU - might be the last time they see the top ten.

            honorable mention

            Colgate, Ferris, MTU, NMU.
            MTU: Three time NCAA champions.

For those of you who are interested in voting here, an explanation behind your ballot is not necessary (but interesting to see why you voted the way you did). Also, remember to vote by Monday by 1pm Eastern Time. There were several people last week who wanted to vote, but were too late.

tough week to rank teams, it's still very early, and there seems to be a lot of parity in college hockey this year.
