I looked and didn't see a UNO thread so I hope I didn't overlook it. I failed to make it to Omaha last weekend with it being Ohio State madness in Lincoln, but thought I would fire up a thread. Have at it! Hoping for a great year. GO MAVS!

You gotta have priorities LincolnMav, hockey should trump football everytime!

As much as I love hockey, it"ll never trump football. I'll be at the Anchorage series.

I went to the games last weekend. It was nice to see the UNO pep band there. It felt more like a college hockey atmosphere and they honored my request to play the beer song, so all was well. Plenty of new faces in the line up. UNO struggled with Colgate's speedy line. It was nice to see Archibald get a couple goals, which is promising. I was disappointed that he didn't get into any fights though. I wonder how long Hudson will be out of the lineup?

I think he should be allowed back first games in December.

Hudson will be back either this weekend or next according to Coach Blais, it depends on if he follows the rules. And as far as seeing Archibald get in a fight why would you want him to do that and get suspended for the next game, he is freakishly good and this Mavs team is going to need all of his playmaking skills this year!

Where are you getting that information from? He cut the football program because it was bleeding money and was going to lose even more money when they made the jump to Division 1 in all sports. I was skeptical of UNO hiring him but I have to say he's done a darn good job considering the mess the athletic program was in when he took over. He did hire a 2x National Champion coach in Dean Blais.

What are you guys going to do when Blais retires and the MN recruiting pipeline dries up?

Ouch. Not the start I was hoping for. Hopefully they can get Hudson back and the offense back on track.

JDUBBS, I would think the hope is that by the time Blais does leave, the program would be more established and UNO wouldnt need Blais to attract top MN talent. UNO has alot to offer. The prevailing theory is Mike Hastings would take over and he has MN ties.

What athletic departments out there in the nation actually make money?? there's only about 25 of them. And most of them are either in the Big Ten or the SEC. Its not really much of a secret that UNL had wanted to get rid of UNO football because it hurt UNL's chances at getting kinds into the Blackshirt program at Lincoln. That's was part of the big reason why Nebraska used to be such a huge power is that they had a bunch of kids who could have started 4 years at some smaller D2 schools paying their own way at Lincoln, mostly ending up as scout team fodder, with perhaps maybe making it onto the field their senior year for field goals or other special teams play.

And frankly, dropping the bomb on both the football and wrestling team the night that the wrestling team collected its third straight National Championship, its just flat out low class. And I'm pretty sure Wrestling wasn't nearly that big of a money loser at UNO. Trev's looking out for Trev, and right now he thinks hockey at UNO can be a calling card for him when the job opens up in Lincoln.

Random question: is Horseshoe in Council Bluffs the only casino with a poker room in that neck of the woods? I know there are a number but from looking at it, it looks that that might be the only one with live poker.

Yeah Horseshoe is the only one with a poker room. I prefer the slot machines at Ameristar but for table games Horseshoe is the place to go. There are 3 casino's in Council Bluffs just across the river from Omaha and less than 5 minutes away from the Arena the Mavs play in.

I play poker a lot, well I used to until I got stuck working two jobs where I have NO free time, so in February my eyes lit up when i saw the casinos when we rolled into Council Bluffs, but I figured "Its a hockey weekend, I'll never actually have time to go play, too much time spent drinking." Well this year half of us are getting in Friday evening and the other half aren't getting in until LATE Friday, early Saturday, and the one who'll be in town with me plays poker too, so I'm excited for that, from what I've heard its an awesome card room.

Can't wait for Thanksgiving weekend, and it has nothing to do with turkey this year. :D

It is a very nice card room. That Friday is my birthday so we might run into each other at the casino I always seem to do good there on my b-day.

I am NOT a fan of this "pep band". They are off key, they were scattered...they played the Imperial March for a Colgate PP? You want to see a hockey band, see here, none of this "pep band" business:

That SOUNDS good. Yes, yes, smaller arena, etc. I get it. I am just throwing my two cents out there.

That being said, I am also bias, because I like the environment it was lat year, more of an NHL arena. I know it's college hockey, but with the music, it sounded great. I am for a band if they can pull it off a little better.

Also, can we get some wins against Alaska this weekend? Looking for a sweep, baby! Go Mavs! Start of WCHA play right!
