Dodging an entire conference...c'mon! For a team as highly respected and likely to be highly ranked...that's a shame. Disappointing to say the least...and I consider WCHA teams every bit as culpable.

Well, times are tough and budgets are tight. Note that all their noncon games are at home..aside from Mercyhurst, which is just down the road a bit.

Budgets aren't that tight. This smacks of wanting to ensure a #1 or #2 ranking. Really pathetic. This will cost them big time when they have to travel for the NCAAs.

I guess it's Cornell and BU that will do battle for the title of "Big Red of the East". I think we all know who holds that title in the West.

Looks like Cornell has a weekend opening up...

I would have loved to see a WCHA team on the schedule for 2011-2012 (UMN, UW or UMD in particular). I don't think Cornell's strength of schedule did them any favors down the stretch in preparing for last year's frozen four. I do think this year's out of conference schedule is an improvement when compared to last year's.

I agree, because last season the OOC schedule was all CHA, but it is only slightly improved. BU is a huge addition, but MC figures to be down a tad from last season, at least in terms of potential. With the Wayne St rumor in aother thread, does that series even happen, and if it does, a lame duck team doesn't figure to offer them much of a challenge. I'm not going to take any shots at the Big Red, because two games against a team of the caliber of the Terriers and two more with the Lakers is far better than we are likely to see from the "we like creampuffs" Badgers or the "too lazy to play" Bulldogs. I doubt the Gophers' non-con games are as good, although for all three, the conference schedule will be much, much more challenging.

Not good enough if the program truly has national championship dreams. They have got to start playing WCHA teams as well as HE. BU's a nice addition, but c'mon...

Of course, regardless of how difficult they might make the OOC schedule they'd still have the problem of having the most challenging part of the schedule in the first half of the year. Still might not toughen them up enough for a tourny run. Really need the conference to improve as well.

Cornell has replaced their series against Wayne State, scheduled for October 21 and 22, with two mid-week games. They have scheduled a 2nd game against Syracuse for Tuesday, January 17, and a 3rd game against Mercyhurst for Tuesday, February 7.

Not much of a boast with Hurst likely having a down year, but it makes sense as Syracuse and Hurst had holes to fill as well due to the WSU loss. Cornell needs to establish some home and home committments with the top WCHA teams. BU has made those upgrades, it is good for college hockey to get the top teams playing each other and it would be good for Cornell as well.

                          Re: Cornell Big Red 2011-2012

                          Hello friends of ECAC hockey,

My name is Kevin McNamara, and I will be a senior on Colgate's hockey team this year. I've had an idea for a charitable project for the past few years, and I wanted to make sure I implemented it before I finished playing for Colgate and in our league. I’ve spoken with Commissioner Hagwell, and this season the teams of the ECAC are going to join together in a project called Goals for Good.
It will be a campaign relying on the competitiveness of the teams, fans, and alumni bases of the teams in the ECAC. "Goals for Good" will be based out of a website, and on the front page, there will be a standings table, much like the one on the ECAC site, except it will rank teams by money raised. Each team will pair up with a charity or cause close to their university or community.
The front page on the website will have a link to each team/partner charity page which will explain the relation. There will also be a donate button on that page. There will be different options for donations. A donor could donate by the amount of goals that a team will score over the duration of the season (example: John Smith will donate $1 for every goal that Colgate University scores this season), a donor could donate by the amount of goals that a team will score over the course of a weekend series (example: John Smith will donate $1 for every goal that Colgate University will score this weekend against Harvard University and Dartmouth College), or a donor could donate a one-time amount (example: John Smith will donate $5 to Colgate University and Charity XYZ).
As of now, we are working on finishing the website. I am also trying to spread the word of the initiative as much as possible to build a fan base for the start of the season and the launch of the website. Goals for Good is trying to build its fan base through a Facebook Fan Page. You can find the Fan Page at www.facebook.com/goals4good. It would great if you could “Like” the initiative and spread the word. I am also new to this process, so all comments and suggestions are appreciated. Sorry for breaking your thread, and thank you very much for your time and support.

                          Kevin McNamara

BTD is reporting Kelly Murray of Medicine Hat, Alberta has committed to Cornell for 2012-2013. She played for the Edge School and Team Alberta last season. Can anyone tell me anything about her game? What are her strengths, etc?

I can't tell you much, but her play at the Canada Winter Games got her noticed by Hockey Canada (invitee to the U18 selection camp). She moves the puck well enough and has good hockey sense. Doesn't give up on any battles and isn't afraid to take risks (which can be taken either way I guess).
