Its CC Week. There are going to be casualties.

Old Pio banned for comments in the Jerry Sandusky thread in the Cafe.
That didn't take long:eek:

Guess I better go read that thread.

Pre- bump!! Interesting thread started on top preforming Freshmen. This Kyle Rau at Minny has got to be Chad's little bro right? If so, I bet CC is kicking themselves for not getting him!!
Yes it is his little bro. Will Kyle be the anathema for cc that Chad was for DU? We can only hope.;)

haha yeah but no more than MN was kicking themselves in hindsight for not landing chad in the first place, and im sure CC not landing kyle wasnt due to lack of effort. kyle rau wasnt exactly flying under the radar in high school.. in any case- the gophers are happy to have him :)

Kyle's twin, Curt, is a d-man playing for the Odessa Jackalopes of the NAHL. Under the radar?

It's not too late, of course, but this can't go on much longer or it will be. Maybe we're gonna do a Sioux this season and show up for the second half.

I just think we're playing as a bunch of talented, selfish individuals. No gelling going on at all. If anything we've moved backwards since September. PP has gotten worse for sure. I do think we have the potential to have a Sioux like second half. I'm wondering about Dusty. He's been invisible. He needs to step up and get in and plant himself in front the net for tips and rebounds. I remember going to a captains practice on Labor Day and thinking Zucker was checked out--going through the motions and that Beau was super dialed in. That hasn't changed.

I wouldn't be surprised if CC smacks the crap out of us this weekend.

Three DU alums performed pretty well last night in the NHL. Tyler Bozak had 2 assists in the Leafs 3-2 shootout win last night. Paul Stastny led the way in the AVs 4-3 OT win by potting the Avs 1st goal in the 2nd period when they were down 3-1. Peter Mannino came in the 3rd period with the Jets down 4-0 and stopped all the rubber that was thrown at him in the Panthers 5-2 win (5th goal was an ENG after Peter was pulled).

DU alum Kevin Dineen, coach of the Panthers, has them in 1st place in the southeast division with an 8-4-3 record. Coach of the Year????

Thank you to all of our Pioneer Vets....Especially CO14ers! You should not have to buy your own beer tomorrow night. You got at least one on me.

And even though he's a kitty Cat...CCTig...Thank you for your service too!

Sure hope you're wrong about Saturday's outcome.

Earlier this week I was thinking about DU Captains. Rhett Rakhshani and Kyle Ostrow.
> Rhett was a top line player with skills and talent. As Captain, we saw it over and over again, when DU needed a goal, he found a way to score. He was all over the ice and brought the rest of the team with him. Not only did he lead by example, but he became the example for the rest of the team. He had an infectious personality. He was the face of DU Hockey.
> Kyle was a good player and with Maiani and Martin made up a strong 2nd line. At least from afar didn't have the same sparkle that Rhett brought to the game. But when the C was sewn on his uniform something changed. When DU was down or struggling, he made his presence felt. His leadership was all the more evident when he couldn't play after surgery. Didn't have Rhett's skills, but had the Captain's mindset. He brought it every game.

Dusty Jackson and Drew Shore, two very different players. Both said they would lead by example when queried by Hyder in preseason interviews. Neither is short on dedication.
But I didn't see that "Rakhshani/Ostrow" factor in either interview.
> Dusty came back from a double whammy missing 14 or 15 months from a broken leg and mono. Came back a better skater and obviously committed to play. Used his big body more effectively in front of the net as well as giving the big hit. Haven't seen that this year. Granted he is on the 3rd line and may not get as many chances for a goal, but certainly he can give the big hit to energize the team.
> Drew has great skills and talent and when he's on the ice, which is a lot, his presence is felt. He gives 100%. He is setting an example for the rest of the team. The improvement between his 1st and 2nd year was nothing short of amazing. What is even more amazing is he is still on an upward trend. He is consistent, not flashy ala Zucker. You can count him every shift. He is a playmaker and a scorer.

My question: Who sets the tone for the team? Who leads in the locker room as well as on the ice?

I'm thinking just the opposite, too many things are pointing in CC's favor, usually when that happens just the opposite takes place. I wouldn't be surprised if DU smacks the crap.

All good points Viz. I still think it's too early to draw any sweeping conclusions. It's a long season. However, with that said, if we can spanked by CC, I might start to panic.

Former DU great Bob Krieger ranked #16 on Top 100 Minnesota High School All Time Player list. He joins former DU greats Bob Young #25 and Pete LoPresti #93 on the list.

Right now nobody has taken on the leadership role and it shows. Unless someone steps into that void, we're screwed IMHO. Regarding Dusty, I don't see him hitting hardly at all. It's almost like he isn't even there. Your points on Rhett and Kyle are spot on. Kyle stepped up in some key moments last year and carried the team on his back. Remember when he was out for a few weeks how uninspired we played?

Does anyone know Drew? What is his style? He looks like a soft spoken/behind the scenes kind of guy. Is that true?

What's up with Chambers this week? He seems to be MIA. I would think he would have plenty to be writing about CC week. I'm curious about Sam's progress. When will he skate? Anybody heard anything? Beau back tomorrow?

Looks like he covered the Isles/Avs last night.

Are you going to watch Orange/Lemon today?

Game notes don't mention Beau and Gwoz indicated earlier this week he is going through full practices. Haven't heard a thing on Sam. I assume he will start skating soon if he is going to be back in mid-January. I'll ask Bacher tomorrow night on his live blog.

Good luck getting anything out of Bacher. He'll most likely require you to purchase some kind of a subscription to get a partial answer.

I'm just hoping we show up and give them a game. CC has had nothing but cupcakes so far. This will be their first test. They have Bucky next weekend at home--Badgers are up 3-nil in the second on the #1 Gophs. Sounds like the Gophs are a no show. Then CC has the Sioux at the Ralph and then back home to host us. Cupcake party is over.
