Strip UMD of their championship

Or, award the Heimlich trophy to Hakstool for FF over-achievement 6 years in a row.

Soooo, if the NCAA says they'll issue sanctions but the ND legislature is forcing the University to continue to use the logo, does that mean that the legislature is willing to put up money for any sanctions against UND?

maybe UND ought to stop playing in NCAA sanctioned tournaents and stop making money for the NCAA...Maybe John Galt can convince the successful program to go on strike until the collective-minded do gooders figure out which side their bread is buttered on.

I wonder what would happen if enough schools decided to form their own Association and stop paying into the NCAA

Regardless of what you all may think of the NCAA; it is an association of voluntary membership. If UND doesn't want to be part of it they should resign from it. If they do want to be a part of it then they either need to abide by it's rulings or begin litigation in court to show why the NCAA doesn't have the power to strip them of their hostile and abusive nickname/logo.

Note here ... it was a plethora of legal opinions, cost and reticence to litigate that brought UND to come to an agreement with the NCAA which it will be violating by continuing to use this name.

Simply choosing to ignore the agreement that they made with the NCAA will not be the end of this. The NCAA will likely apply some sanctions at this point. Hopefully, it all ends up in court. The legalities haven't changed just because the ND legislature has decided that the squeaky wheels in their email boxes must be appeased.

Bottom line: GTFO of the NCAA if you don't like it's rules.

they should probably just join a Canadian hockey league. the coaching staff and most of the players would feel right at home.

The problem that a lot of North Dakota fans have with the NCAA stems from the fact that Florida State played by different rules. If the NCAA granted the same waiver to UND that they granted FSU, there would have never been a lawsuit in the first place. FSU was granted a waiver because of their "close ties" with the Seminole tribe of Florida (and disregarding the fact that there is a Seminole tribe in Oklahoma, who they never gauged to see whether they were okay with it). North Dakota back in the late 60's/early 70's had a conference of sorts with the leaders/elders of the Standing Rock and Spirit Lake Sioux tribes where they granted their approval of the nickname. Spirit Lake has voted as well, and were overwhelmingly in favor of allowing UND to keep the nickname (Standing Rock has never voted, largely because they believe that they already gave UND permission decades ago).

The agreement was a disaster, as most feel that the Atty Gen. should never have made the agreement. It was however made, and dismissed with prejudice, so North Dakota cannot bring it back up again. That doesn't mean though that there aren't loopholes and different avenues to pursue in trying to get this changed.

IF UND went with the "Fighting Dakotans" could they keep the logo??

OR, UND needs to join a BCS league and then the NCAA will cave in the face of all those lost $$$. For we all know that the BCS conferences really run the NCAA and that the SEC is first among the pigs.
