In every game, there must be a winner and a loser. Some, however, aren't quite as ready to accept that fate.

There is your reinforcement less of the day, accompanied by a photo that could be called "Exhibit A." We spent the better part of last night's Frozen Four semifinal games roaming the lower concourse -- viewing the action from various standing-room spots and mingling with the hockey crowd. Ultimately, it included some very upset North Dakota fans -- including one particular young couple.

The female spent most of the third period texting what we presume were other anxious fans. One of the only times she spoke was when the UND goalie charged out of the net to play the puck in order to prevent a possible breakaway. It worked, though it was a little shaky. And during the exchange, the woman jumped from her seat and yelled something like, "No! Noooooooo! No! What the [redacted] are you doing?!?!" The guy sat silently, nervously. You could tell he was heavily invested. As each third period chance went by without a tying goal in a 1-0 game, his sports fury simmered. Believe us, we have been there.

We have not, however, ever punched a hole in the wall of a public sporting arena (or anywhere else, for that matter). This UND fan cannot say the same. After Michigan scored an empty-netter in the final minute to essentially seal the game, he stood up and pounded the wall high above him. Then he did it again, producing that hole you see in the picture. And then they left.

After punching a hole in the wall above him the couple was reported to be leaving quickly from the X, but not before some quick thinking photographers snapped a picture of them fleeing back to the flat lands.

I don't like the attitudes you'll find with UND fans as much as the next guy. However, after meeting a select few Michigan grads (not concerning anything hockey) over my years, I've also come to dislike them intensely as well.

UND likes to strut their hockey program and for good reason. They are always a contender and there isn't much else in North Dakota. Michigan thinks their university is the Harvard of the Midwest and like to portray themselves as pretentious d*** bags.

Here is a +1 for the UND faithful in this smear campaign.

I was releasing some liquid impurities behind SEC 124 during the 1st intermission of the Michigan vs. UND game last night. On the right side, a Michigan fan. On my left, a UND fan. As both approached the urinals the Michigan fan initiates contact UND fan:

MICHIGAN FAN - "So when are you guys driving home?" --

UND FAN - "What do you mean?"--

MICHIGAN FAN - "Well are you going home tonight or tomorrow?"--

UND FAN - "We're going home Sunday afternoon."-- (pleasant and friendly tone)

MICHIGAN FAN - "Why, your team ain't doing ****, you're not making it too the championship." (Envision a pretentious D-bag tone)

I quickly zipped and got from in-between them as they then came together face-to-face.

MICHIGAN FAN - "Huh, what you wanna do you *******"

... I then exited the rest room

Other fans from their teams (who didn't know either of them) pulling them away from each other. It was one slur away from a full-on fist fight.

No need for a fan to do that to another, especially while interrupting some as sacred as relieving ones self. Both fans were silent until the Michigan fan decided to pipe up and talk some crap, though his team was only up 1-0 after 1 period.

Remember, all teams have these fans. Michigan is surely no exception.

Why should you believe this, because I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm a neutral Badger fan.

tUMD is the Harvard of the Midwest.

Harvard is also a small town in the hinterlands of Central Massachusetts so I guess you may be right. Good luck Bulldogs; nothing against Michigan but it would be nice to see another school put up a banner. I remember that Bowling Green loss well in Lake Placid. Could have gone either way.
