  • CCHA and WCHA should combine when BIg Ten forms???

The CCHA and WCHA should combine to save small school hockey

Call the new league (WCHA Super Confrence)

    West Division
    Alaska Ankorage
    Alaska Fairbanks
    Denver Pioneers
    CC Tigers
    North Dokata
    Bemdji
    St Cloud
    UNO
    Mankato
    UMD Bulldogs

    East Division
    MTU Huskies
    LSSU Lakers
    NMU Wildcats
    Ferris state
    Bowling Green
    Miami Ohio
    Notre Dame
    Western Michigan

Small schools have to stick together to survive and also college hockey needs to keep rivals playing each other in the WCHA.

The league games could be played in the tier that your in.

The CCHA will not survive without the big schools.

Notre Dame and Miami will leave the CCHA soon.....

The WCHA will save the CCHA.

Why would the WCHA take in these small schools that cant even turn a profit in the CCHA? The MAC schools are going to stick together, the WCHA does not care what is happening in the CCHA, nor should they. They will function just fine at a 10 team league once again.

The WCHA should care about the CCHA. Should they not support the CCHA will fold without the big three schools. By combining the leagues they will be strong and weak teams in each division. If they dont step in there will be more college teams folding like Wayne State, Findley, and Kent State. I would rather see expansion then folding hockey has a hard enough time being excepted in every market in the US.

Why would these leagues be foolish enough to merge and cost themselves an automatic NCAA bid? That would be a horrible move.

Do you think the CCHA will survive without Ohio State, MSu and MIchigan?

Yes. It certainly existed well before MSU and UM jumped from the WCHA to the CCHA, and Ohio STate was playing in a place that rivals Dee Stadium in capacity seating.

Shame on the B10 schools for abandoning their confrences, and ruining hockey, but the WCHA is just fine and the hell with the rest of the programs? This is the same attitude that almost killed BSU. UNO saved BSU when they said that they would come into the league ONLY if BSU came too. The arrogance and self-serving attitude is great for the game, don't you think? It's been this way for a long time.

Do you think Notre Dame, Miami Ohio would even want to stay in the CCHA with Bowling Green, NMU, LSSu, Ferris, and Fairbanks? I think they would exit and the rest would fold or go independent and there would just be a mess.

But will the CCHA survive? probaly not because Notre Dame and Miami will seek greener pastures

And where would they go? The WCHA would increase their travel in a very big way. Remaining in the CCHA would continue to give them reasonable travel and put them as a favorite for an automatic NCAA tourney bid annually. Being an independent makes scheduling very difficult as well.

I could see Notre Dame joining Hockey East, WCHA or Big Ten. Miami Ohio would pursue the WCHA alone becasue of the high level of the program to compete in the WCHA and a new rink.

For Notre Dame to join the Big Ten, they would have to join in all sports. I don't see that happening anytime soon. If Miami were to join Hockey East, they would have to fly for every road trip. That's rather expensive. If Miami were to join the WCHA, only Michigan Tech averages less in attendance than does Miami. Miami does have a beautiful building, but it is well below the WCHA's benchmark for capacity, and again, the travel would be brutal, with no other school within a 12 hour bus ride. Michigan Tech would be the shortest trip at 681 miles. Flights would be a necessity for most, if not all their conference road games, and I don't think too many of the teams left in the WCHA want to add the trip to Oxford to their schedule. Such a venture would add over $100,000 a year to Miami's travel budget. The chances of that are slim to none. Why would they wish to travel 881 miles to Bemidji, when they can travel to Big Rapids? Their shortest trip in the WCHA (Tech, 681 miles) would still be longer than their longest non-Alaska trip in the CCHA (NMU 650 miles).

Thats why i could see combining the WCHA and CCHA the teams could play all the games in the Western or Eastern division without worrying about brutal travel. Each team would get up to 30 confrence games. The West teams would play western teams and the eastern teams would play in there area. All the games would be close ie......

mtu vs lssu vs nmu vs ferris
denver vs cc vs uno vs north dokata
bemdji vs UMD vs st cloud vs mankato
Miami vs bowling green vs notre dame vs western michigan
                          alaska ankorage vs fairbanks

Rivals will be preserved and cost will be within reason as the big boys leave

Combining ain't going to happen. You lose the auto bid each conference gets. You COULD do an interlocking schedule between the WCHA and CCHA.
