View Full Version : Bobcats take on Cornell in ECAC Quarterfinals

This past weekend, the Quinnipiac Bobcats swept the Brown University Bears in back to back 4-0 shutouts, only the second time in ECAC playoff history a team was to shut out the opponent for a series. The last time it happened, was in 2007 when Brown shutout Harvard in their playoff series.

Now, Quinnipiac must turn its attention to No. 4 Cornell, as they prepare to battle for a three game series at Cornell, with the first game this Friday. Coming off two 4-0 victories must be doing wonders for the Bobcats' confidence, which they will need and probably ride into the next series.

Not to take anything away from Brown, but their play offered no signs that they wished to continue into the playoffs. The Bobcats seemingly did everything right, with goalies Dan Clarke and Eric Hartzell gettin back to back shutout performances.

QU has seemingly finally found some offensive consistency, the one thing hampering them the whole season. But this series poses some questions in regards to QU.

1. Who do you put between the pipes? With Dan Clarke and Eric Hartzell both having a strong showing, do you go back to Clarke or even let senior Pat McGann see some playing time and see what he has got in his last year as a Bobcat. Whomever is chosen has to step up bigtime.

2. Keep the lines, keep the consistency. Jeremy Langlois and Zach Hansen had hot sticks in the series both getting two goals a piece, as well as many other secondary players stepping up to answer the call.

While Quinnipiac probably feel on top of the world right now, they need to get back down to earth andn refocus because the Cornell series will be anything but easy. Quinnipiac's most successful postseason came in 2007 when the Bobcats swept Union at home before upsetting Cornell at Lynah Rink in two games in the quarterfinals. So the Bobcats know that they can pull this off, as long as they play smart, all out hockey the way they did in the Brown series.
