In years past they have played Bentley and Huntsville and the Tsongas was not very full. They should be playing the UConn game at the Tsongas.

Attendance must normally be diminished during school breaks, especially when hosting small market out of conference programs. Hopefully will be able to make the UAH game this year over Thanksgiving but I expect the crowd will be small.

Was looking through internet favorites and visited TIIL for the first time in a long time. Not sure if it's common knowledge, but their latest post (from July 29th) says they'll be back in full force this season.

Good find, I'd been hoping they'd come back but hadn't visited the page in a while.

I know there was one where there was only 700-800... trying to remember if it was Brown or Bentley.

An update on the rink: They are in the process of installing the dasher boards. However, it is my understanding that things are not progressing as quickly as planned and that there is a chance that the exhibition game may not be played at the Tsongas after all.

I asked on the Providence thread with no response, does anyone know when the 1st official day of practice is?

Anything that helps the team get bigger, stronger, and faster is ok in my book. Seems to have some good DI experience and nice to see MA and hockey connections in his background.

That's good to see. Hopefully he can stay healthy, produce, and move up to spend a good portion of the season in the AHL.

That's too bad. I'm sure all involved with the program are looking forward to playing at home, especially after last year's renovations. Hopefully they don't miss more home games than (at most) the exhibition and, as is on the schedule, the UConn game. Starting conference play in Nashua (or some other rink) would not be cool.

Maine is in the same boat as renovations are being completed at the Alfond. I like how they brought the freshmen in early.

Spoke with a couple of kids in the UML Student Government over the weekend, and according to them the plans to move all UML sports to D1 are definitely in process.

A risky move because it can be expensive but if they can make ends meet, absolutely love the idea.

Wonder what a good conference fit would be (assuming they have an open spot)...
CAA - probably not, too many southern teams and a lot of travel
NEC - not a bad fit, lots of travel to NJ and CT
A10 - very geographically dispersed, probably don't want to be in same conference as Amherst, would be northernmost member
America East - probably best fit with hockey opponents UNH, Maine, BU, and UVM included and manageable travel

If we want to think bigger, I hear the Big East is taking applications ;)

Merrimack is also looking into a move to D1. That's part of the agenda of their new President.

Hopey's goals for the next decade include increasing the student enrollment from about 2,100 students to more than 3,000. He said he also wants to make the school a NCAA Division I school and expand intercollegiate athletics.

Not sure I can see that happening. We killed football many years ago when I was still n school. Basketball? They could move over to Tsongas as we all know Costello is a dump, but that wouldn't help attendance.

Soccer, field hockey, baseball? The only revenue sport we have is hockey.

State funds coming into the University are way down.

I personally went to a bunch of field hockey games when I was in school. If they were to start playing the likes of UNC, Penn State, etc. I'd go back and see them play. Also, moving up to DI allows for scholarships that can, theoretically bring in better players (still waiting on that for hockey), which in turn leads to better season, higher attendance, more revenue, etc. etc. etc.

I'd just like to see them go to DI, and as much as I love football, don't even bother adding it. That would be a money pit at D1-D1AA.

I absolutely want the program to go D-1 in all sports. I usually go to 6-7 basketball games a year but would immediately buy season tix if they made the jump, if even to America East. Probably would go to more field hockey, soccer, etc. games on a more consistent basis too.

For reasons I don't even think I'd have to get into here, it would be great for the university to be further linked to schools like BU, UNH, UVM, and Maine than New Haven, SNHU, and AIC.

Nothing against those schools, but exactly right.

I really do hope they make this happen.
