Fitchburg State and Framingham State are scoreless through one period.

FIT: Bobby Leiser (9 saves)
FRA: Terrence Sullivan (9 saves)

Power Plays:
FIT: 0/1
FRA: 0/0 (will be on PP for :53 to start the second period)

Not sure what happened to Framingham on Saturday, when they gave up 11 to Westfield; but they are definitely playing better than that tonight.

About to start period 2 @ Plymouth. We'll see if Salem makes a goalie change as PSU scored on their first 3 shots (4 for the period). Salem will have 1:59.5 of power play time to start the period.

Well that was quick. Salem scored off the opening rush. Cappodanno @ 0:17

Edit: No changes in net.

Fitchburg State leads Framingham State 2-1, through two periods.

Goalscorers: (times are estimated)
FIT: Chris Riggs (8, 2:56 of 2nd), Kris Threlkeld (8, 7:39 of 2nd)
FRA: Eric Ward (7, 1:26 of 2nd)

FIT: Bobby Leiser (21 saves / 22 shots)
FRA: Terence Sullivan (19 saves / 21 shots)

Power Plays:
FIT: 0/4
FRA: 0/3

Eric Ward opened the scoring for the Rams about 90 seconds into the period, on what was probably a fourth chance (Leiser was down, and flopping around in desperation). Mostly, Framingham scored because Fitchburg couldn't clear the zone.

Chris Riggs equaled the score 90 seconds after that, beating Terence Sullivan on a big rebound. Kris Threlkeld scored five minutes later, beating Sullivan cleanly from ten feet away.

Fitchburg has had trouble clearing the zone, giving the Rams ample scoring chances as the Falcons get fatigued on the ice. Bobby Leiser has been absolutely solid in net tonight, making a huge glove save on Ward after a Falcons defensive breakdown (again, from not clearing the zone). Seeing Leiser get around in the crease, and seeing him make the saves that he makes, he looks just like Tim Thomas in goal.

Now 3-1 Dartmouth in the 2nd

02-10-2011, 07:48 PM

One timer from the slot

One of those nice hockey oddities where all the goals have been scored into one net (scoreboard end).

2:00 left Salem needs to show a sense of urgency here.

GOAL Salem 1:22 left Franklin

Salem takes a dumb one in the offensive zone. 0:35 left

FINAL Plymouth 4 Salem 3 Panthers celebrate like they won the Stanley Cup.

5-1 now I guess.
On the last PP goal, there were two goals called back as the net came off twice, JUST before the puck went in. Third time is the charm.

Framingham State defeats Fitchburg State 5-4

FIT: Chris Riggs (8, 2:55 of 2nd), Kris Threlkeld (8, 7:37 of 2nd; 9, 3:28 of 3rd), Brett Provost (2, 4:10 of 3rd)
FRA: Eric Ward (7, 1:22 of 2nd), Jon Vaillancourt (1, 2:49 of 3rd), Daniel Miressi (14, 17:30 of 3rd; 15, 18:36 of 3rd), Benjamin Pacific (5, 19:31 of 3rd)

FIT: Bobby Leiser (L, 9-3-1; 31 saves / 36 shots)
FRA: Terence Sullivan (W, 2-9-1; 31 saves / 35 shots)

Power Plays:
FIT: 0/4
FRA: 0/4

The third period was in one word, insane.

Jon Vaillancourt got his first goal of the season early, on a third chance after Leiser stopped the first two chances. Kris Threlkeld would put the Falcons back in front about 35 seconds later, with his second of the game. Less than a minute later, Brett Provost scored an absolute fluke goal. He sent the puck in from the red line, and it somehow beat Sullivan.

The next thirteen minutes featured back and forth play, some chippyness, and some good saves. As the clock ran under three minutes, it looked like Framingham would enter desperation mode and pull Sullivan. But thanks to Daniel Miressi, that never had to happen.

Miressi entered the zone with about 2:35 left, cut through the Falcon defense, and beat a sprawling Leiser to make it 4-3. About a minute later, Miressi launched an absolute laser beam from about 30 feet from the goal. There was nobody in the way, and Leiser couldn't get his glove up fast enough. 4-4.

It looked like the Rams would force overtime, but Ben Pacific decided to do his impression of Daniel Miressi. On a carbon copy of Miressi's second goal, The Rams took a 5-4 lead.

The Falcons would pull Leiser, and blitz the offensive zone. With 15 seconds left, it looked like the Falcons had tied it up. But the officials ruled that Sullivan had covered it before it was poked in. With the mob of people in front, it was hard to tell if Sullivan had covered it. Considering what I saw, and the opinion of the announcer, it was probably the right call. The Rams won the faceoff, and pinned it against the boards to finish it off.

The Falcon defense had a really rough night. They looked tired in the defensive zone, and gave the Rams too many chances. Just a tough night. The Rams came out with a vengeance, after losing by nine against Westfield last Saturday. This was probably their best game all season, and thus, they deserved this one.

Framingham State improves to 3-14-1 (3-10-1 MASCAC), and will return to Framingham to take on Worcester State on Saturday. Fitchburg State falls to 13-6-1 (7-5-1 MASCAC), and will travel to the Rockett Arena to take on Salem State on Saturday.
