Re: 2/3/11 - Painful news for the MASCAC - Carey declares them dead (and other scores

UMass Dartmouth defeats Fitchburg State 3-1

      Goalscorers:
      FIT: Shawn Bradley (2)
UMD: Adam Horgan (2), Jason Stahl (10, 11-EN)

      Goaltenders:
      FIT: Bobby Vorse (L, 4-3-1)
      UMD: Collin Tracy (W, 13-5-1)

      Power Plays:
      FIT: 0/8 + 1 failed penalty shot
      UMD: 0/5

Fitchburg scored early in the third, as Shawn Bradley took a shot from the blue line that went through traffic and in. After that, UMD started playing lockdown defense, preventing the Falcons from ever establishing control in the zone. The Corsairs also stopped taking penalties, which didn't help Fitchburg's chances. Jason Stahl iced it with 49 seconds left with an empty netter.

In the end, strong defense, goaltending, and penalty killing helped the Corsairs take the victory tonight. With Westfield's victory over Plymouth, the Corsairs finish the second cycle of Round Robin play alone in first place.

UMass Dartmouth improves to 13-5-1 (8-3-1 MASCAC), and will kick off the third cycle of conference play at home against Salem State on Saturday. Fitchburg State falls to 13-5-1 (7-4-1 MASCAC), and will resume play at home next Thursday against Framingham State.

This just clearly means the West sucks and St. Norbert should be the only team from the West allowed in.

As Michael A. Smith would say, "The west is a JV league compared to the east."

            tic post folks.

Also the thread title is a classic case of shooting the messenger. I don't make the system, I merely try to predict what will happen with it.

                Just back from EC.
The Blugolds put 48 shots on goal, but could not get one past Stout goalie Lescovick, who was outstanding.
Particularily in the third period, when EC applied heavy pressure.
Stout's first goal was the result of a major scrum in front of the EC net. The later was an EN goal, while the Blugolds were on a 6x4 PP.
