Per Chambers Blog Murray starts in net tonight against UAA.

He can't help but be better this time, the circumstances are different, and he's not likely to get many more chances if Great Brittain continues his top flight play. He'll be motivated and I predict will do a good job.

Posted this on Murray's thread. It's SI reporting on the '69 NC game but it's really about Murray and his philosophy.

Note: The article talks alot about George Morrison. 40 goals his rookie season, including 5 hatties! Two games with 4! That guy could score in his sleep. Is he the only Pioneer with back to back league scoring titles? The article says he was the property of the Rangers, however, he wound up leaving DU a year early to sign with St. Louis. Craig Patrick's dad was GM of the Blues. And Jeff Jennings, son of Rangers owner Bill, was a DU student and pretty good pal.

I would bet he is. It's not like DU has racked up many individual scoring titles over the years. In my time (the past 30ish years), I only seem to recall Gaume in '86, Dave Shields in '90 and Stastny in '06. Ed Beers, perhaps, in '82? Then when you consider that from 1974 until the past 10-15 years that DU only had real good teams in '78 and '86, I would have to state once again "I would bet he is" DU's only back to back scoring champ -- unless maybe Masterton pulled it off in maybe '60 and '61, but I'm not sure the year when there was no league (and thus no league scoring title), maybe '59, when they were in between the WIHL disbanding and the WCHA forming.

Jerry Walker had some eye popping numbers from those years, too. 60-61 team, IIRC, averaged better than 7 goals a game! Occasionally I think of that when Swami offers one of his well thought out: "we'll probably not be able to score more than 3 goals a game" analyses, suggesting it'll be tough to finish above the middle of the league. Yeah? Well, where will we finish if we average better than 7 a game? With one loss is the answer. And 12 goals in the NC game! :D:);)

I think Jerry Walker had something like 89 goals in 2 seasons and no more than 65-66 games, with 13 hat tricks. Or something like that...

Sounds right. I'm too lazy to dig out my last media guide, you're in the ball park.

Jerry Walker - 1960-61 Season - 56 goals (1st all time), 29 assists, 85 points (3rd all time), 10 hat tricks (1st all time)

Jerry Walker - 2 season career - 87 goals (4th all time), 48 assists, 135 points (34th all time), career hat tricks not in media guide

I'd say that's pretty impressive.

So, 87 is close to my 89, but I still stand by my 13 hat tricks :) (this all off the top of my head) and all in 2 seasons and either 65 or 66 games...

Oh come on DMann. CC just played the ultimate Suck of SCSU on the road. SCSU fans are about to jump off their fairly new bridge. CC? Not so much bro.

My point being that DU has time to heal some wounds like now like Beau Bennett and that we've done pretty **** well in the last few weeks. We have a challenging schedule coming up in respect to road games, but the opponents aren't top notch like in the first half. I'd be surprised, big time, if we don't make the NCAA tourney, that is the main goal. Easy there, brother.

Right you are!! It's just that every year I think CC is finally done and back to the basement where they belong, they come back and manage to make our lives miserable, especially at Magness. Face it they've been good since like 1993!! If it weren't for those Schwartz bros., they might be back there now.

It would take a complete and utter collapse for DU not to make the tourney. What they'll do there is anyone's guess.

The Pioneers are better offensively than anyone expected them to be, and the goaltending has been top notch for the most part. Special teams is still a work in progress, with PP and PK needing more success. Defensively, all the elements are in place for this team for a good stretch run, but I would like to see them develop a better shutdown system for protecting leads late in games. Giving up the third period goal to UAA last night is a classic example of this. The Pioneers should be very good in the second half - the schedule is a little lighter, and DU has some depth up front that lots of other teams don't have. They need to keep extending the work rate to avoid those lulls where other teams catch them sleepwalking. All in all, a better first half than I expected.
