If you remember, almost all of his goals last season came off tip ins from the side of the net, off Abbott feeds.
I am pretty sure that Shemansky has only scored on "shots" twice, both of rebounds out front.

i remember, but i literally don't remember hearing his name at all... not "shemansky dishes the puck to," no "shemansky looking for the rebound," no "shemansky carries the puck/moves the puck through center," nothing...

hate to say it, but if mangene is trying to go end to end all the time and not looking to dish the puck for an occasional give and go, Shemansky is not going to get the puck.... He is a tip in artist

Darling had potential too bad he blew it. When I saw Sully play against Acadia, I went this guy can't move side to side at all. But he does square up and he plays big and he moves better than he did so maybe it was rust. I still want to see Ouellette If there's a chance to see Ouellette then the NU series would be it...imo.

HE is so much better when Maine is good, rivalries with everyone else, besides BC, can only reach a certain point until they have national success, and it's hard to have Maine be a rival when they're finishing around 8th (unless that is for ineligibility issues). D@mn that has to be the most fun I've had at a November hockey game in a while.

When the entire "Big 4" are good.......Hockey East benefits BIG TIME.

I don't think Shemansky is seeing much, if any PP time this season either. Lot of his goals last year were those tips/rebounds on the PP, and looks like Diamond is in that spot this year. Deservedly so, as well, but Shemansky's got to pick up his game some and make more opportunities for himself. And yeah, mangene's got to use his linemates better, as he's shown he's not getting it done by himself.

5 or so years ago, Jackie had his best goalie riding the pine. it took 2 injuries to find out that Curry was the best of the bunch.

Well Curry was an unrecruited walk-on who was not expected to play, but actually got into the second game of the season, after zero injuries to the top two goalies.

If Jack; however, said that Curry was by far the best goalie but, he was too young to play, I would question why he was a fine age to bring into the program if he was not old enough to play, since the Maine goalie got injured during the preseason age seems to not be the limiting factor so it is irrelevant.

Very good game for Maine last night. fast-paced, up and down all night, a little chippy ;) good game to watch. Thought by the third when maine took the lead they were pretty much dominating BU, but they did sit back a little, not completely like Timid Tim teams of the past, but a bit.

Maine D played very well, Van Dyk looks like a totally dicfferent player from last season and the first few games of this one. Cornell started out on the fourth line, but after losing O'Neil, went back to D with Mangene double shifted. I ws trying to figure out what was going on when i first noticed this in the second period.

Sullivan was huge. Not a lot of BU shots in the first, but a lot missed the net, and there was chaos in front all the time, and he looked soolid and steady in his positioning. And he did make a ton of great saves to keep Baine in this game, BU is just fast and tenacious and always attacking. May have played a better game than Darling ever gave us.

Thought Corkum played great, and nice to see that name in a Maine uniform on the ice. Glad to see he hadn't got his bell wrung as badly as feared when I first heard the news about him in practice. The hit from behind notwithstanding, that's just youthful aggressiveness in his first game, but this team can use a player like him. Get him, Beattie and Anthoine knocking some people around, and it can only be a good thing for the rest of the guys on the team to capitalize on. Had back to back wristers point blank in the slot late in the third that he just sent high, but they were lazers, Dee-like. Mangene was all over the ice, if he could just bury some of the chances he got. Sort of Todd Jenkins/Jackson thing out there, his speed creates all sorts of chances that he can't quite seal the deal on. Need to get Shemansky potting some goals again, too.

Lots of scrums and shenaigans in front and after the whistle, typical Maine-BU rivalry. BU blocked a ton, a ton, of shots and passes on the night too, those guys were everywhere with sticks and bodies getting in front of Maine shooters.

Good observations Rufus! Like you thought it was just a real fun game to watch, and despite no House and O'Neil's injury, which I never saw thought Maine played a very solid road game. Agree with others that this was not a typical November game, had playoff intensity.

I have said that Mangene reminds of Jackson, (I like the Jenkins throw in always loved him) but continues to have stone hands. Thought he overcarried the puck last night a few times, once he had Abbott in the slot asking for the puck and did chose to wrist one.

Was very impressed with both Corkum and Anthoine. They both bring size to make up for some of the smaller forwards we have, and both play physical, Corkum had a great chance to make it 3-1 and missed high. Also thought Van Dyk was the best D-Man out there for Maine, very strong on the puck and for a guy who has scored 1 goal, was also offensive minded.

Like Sullivan and Ouellette will get his chance. Coaches did the right thing to bring in 2 Freshmen, just a strange situation since Sirman has also been very respectable.

BU fans around me in section 111 were great, as I think everyone enjoyed the intensity. I was noting that the BC-UNH game had about 2 or 3 penalties, last night was like old times at Walter Brown between Maine and BU, lots of fun!

Can't do much about a puck that caroms around the crease and in off a Maine skate with the extra attacker on.

Agree that the goal was somewhat fluky, but we should give credit where it is due. The goal was tapped out of the air by Coyle, about 5 inches up the shaft of his stick. If it hadn't have hit his stick, it looked to me like it was heading wide.

My eyes thought it hit a BU skate and was going in, but wouldn't have counted had a BU stick not come in contact with it before it crossed the line.

I agree........or when he shoots, snipe it rather than hitting the goalie in the chest

BU's other goal was a PP goal, Maine D lost his player off to the side a bit when he turned to protect the shot from right in the slot, and the guy made a great pass over to him wide open off the low circle. Can't ask them to play a much better road game in that kind of environment. BU fans were loud.

Maine should get rid of the "TRAP" and continue aggresive forechecking. Maine plays better when they have a hard forecheck, take away time and space. Thought the last 5 minutes of the third they were trying to protect the lead just taking away center ice.

This. It hit off Pereira's skate and was definitely going in. Coyle got his stick on it just before it crossed the line. Had Coyle not gotten a piece of it, it would've been interesting to see if it was ruled a distinct kicking motion. Pereira definitely angled his skate (presumably to redirect it toward his stick), but I'm not sure he kicked at all. That's what the review was for- did Pereira kick it in? But Coyle touching it made it an easy review.

I think they've gone back to the original ruling on a puck off the skate.
You can't direct it in anymore, even without a distinct kicking morion.
BC had a goal called back against UNH because it deflected into the net off of Gibbons skate (no kicking motion).

Very difficult I think when you're at warp speed. Think about time and space. Both of them are in short supply when you are a speed merchant, things happen so fast. I think thats why you see so many of these speedsters shooting into a goalies gut on rushes. Might be better to shoot for his pads and hope for rebounds for a trailer.

Anyone see the comment section after the game story? It's what this place used to be like. Strange.

Wow, I hadn't even seen those until now.

Ummm, what is with the couple of Maine fans that are so bent out of shape with BU being ranked so high? First of all, it doesn't matter AT ALL. "POLES" DON'T MATTER. Only the pairwise actually matters. I agree that BU is not a top three team right now. But the fact is that they are still undefeated, and voters are not going to put an undefeated Hockey East team below the top three or four. And when all the other top teams lose, those teams are going to fall. I still think BC is the best team in the league, but they've lost three games. They'll go undefeated from Christmas on and end up back in the top spot right when it matters most. And the comment about Parker's surgery influencing their ranking...really??? I'm as willing as any BU fan to question if Parker should still be the coach, but there is no way that a procedure on the coach in the off-season is influencing a teams ranking. Yes, it makes for some nice stories. But nothing else.

And all the complaining about the BC-oriented chants....like it or not, it's been done for eons, and it's not going to change. Cornell fans do the same thing towards BU. Heck, after BU beat Maine in the 1995 title game, BU fans decided to take one last shot at their cross-town rivals.

OK, I'm off my soapbox (thanks Bomber). BTW, overall, still very impressed with the Maine fans (and that Nyquist fellow)...

I think most on this board are aware of that stuff. You should post this in the comment section of the article, and see where it gets you. :D I agree on the BC sucks chant though. Reeks of inferiority complex.

..

Love the comment where some BU guy says Maine fans were chanting Jackie should die. I've been to every BU game at Alfond since the 80s and I've never heard it. Maybe it was fans whispering it in Jackies ears:D. I think the Maine commenters must be old timers, BU is the team team we love to beat more than any other. A sign of respect for the BU program

I'm not sure who it is that made that comment, but it seems pretty absurd. I wouldn't be surprised to hear this at UMass, but not Maine. While they have a few yahoo's, generally Maine fans have been the most friendly that I've run into of all HE teams.
