I can only take 1 more year of Rand. If he doesnt get us back to the tourney next year with the talent that is coming back then he has to go. I appreciate everything that he has done for the program, but if he cant do that then we have to look in a new direction....

Wow... this thread is dead!

North Country weekend... always a tough one. But I feel we can do well on the road up there. At a minimum we need to come home with 2 points.

I haven't quite figured Clarkson out this year. One week they're good and the next not so much. We owe them one for the loss at the Bank earlier, but Cheel is a tough barn for the road team. It probably depends on which Bobcat team gets off the bus. Ever the optimist, I'll take Q 3-2.

Remember tomorrow at SLU is a 4:00 start.

Nice game by the boys. Took it to them in the first. Langer with another 2! The kid is on fire! Clarkson picked it up a little in the 2nd but I think we held our own. The 3rd was a little more even with Clarkson having a slight edge until Yuri picked off a pass in the neutral zone and buried it. The Knights made it interesting with a late PPG but we managed to hold on for the win. A huge 2 points on the road in a really tough barn. Moves us ahead of Clarkson in the standings as well.

Rest up and take it to the Saints tomorrow afternoon!

Taking the first game of a North Country trip is gigantic and leaves open the possibility of a sweep which would be huge going into Union/RPI weekend at the Bank. I wasn't able to listen or watch but thanks to flawless play by play texts from one MarkEagle I felt as if I was sitting in Cheel watching the bonesaw get turned on the Knights. Keep it up this afternoon boys and take it to the Saints who are struggling right now and coming off a tough loss to a good Princeton squad.

In future Bobcat news, with a little help from Heisenberg's hockey blog I've assembled a list of some of the faces we will see in the coming Freshmen classes set to grace the Bank.

Freshman Class of 2011
Matthew Peca, Center, Pembroke Lumber Kings (CJHL). This centermen is probably the most highly touted youngster entering next season. In fact USCHO put out an article on the NHL's players to watch list and he was featured. Another smaller player, Peca will continue Rand's recent string of quick, athletic recruits rather than big and lumbering. He's having a monster year for Pembroke (49 pts. in 36 games) after a less than stellar season last year. He's from Ontario and looks to head next year's recruiting class.

Danny Federico, Defensemen, Junior Bruins (EJHL). Federico brings some size to fill Hansen void (6-1, 215). An Massachusetts kid, Federico signed early way back in 2006 but with a thick defensemen core returning it should be interesting to see how much playing time he earns.

Travis St. Denis, Right Wing, Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL). I feel as if St. Denis has been on QU's radar since he was wearing diapers. I was reassured when I saw his recent head shot making him seem like he is finally old enough to drive a car. But like Peca, size is not St. Denis' game (5-8, 166). But he is finally tallying up points in a competitive BCHL (21 G, 26 A in 34 Games). He could be a flight risk simply because he's used to staying at home. He was born in Trail, BC and has played his junior hockey there. Hopefully he can hang on the East coast.

Jack Callahan, Defensemen, Springfield Blues (NAHL). Callahan (Red Bank, NJ) is a smaller defensemen but was highly sought after by assistant coach Ben Syer for close to three years. He is considered an offensive defenseman but will have a tough time, like Federico cracking a defensive clusterpuck.

Michael Gartieg, Goalie, Powell River Kings (BCHL). Gartieg, a BC kid, will come in to fill Patty McGann's void. I presume he will be given every chance to win a job, but the way Hartz has played of late it could be tough. To date, his numbers are out of this world. He leads the BCHL in wins with 28, has a 1.25 GAA and a .936 SV% and that is through 43 games. Very nice. He will join D'Arcy Oakes and Clay Harvey as former River Kings to grace the Bobcat sweater.

The kid is young and inexperienced and we won't see him for quite some time, but he has shown the scoring touch at this level with 18 G, 20 A in just 22 Games.

Jason Stephanik, Left Wing, North Jersey Avalanche (AYHL). Stephanik (Monroe, NY), too, has a way to go but framewise has more to build on already at 6 feet tall and only 16 years old.

Peter Quenneville, Right Wing, Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL). Quenneville (Edmonton, AB), no relation to the best of my knowledge to Coach Q of the Blackhawks, is in his first year of junior hockey and will have some time to develop before joining the Q. As of right now he is struggling slightly with only 17 points in 43 games.

Now, these classes could change, players can be added or omitted but it's interesting to see the recruiting trends that Rand is feeling. But unlike recent recruiting classes half of these kids are American. The U.S. is definitely trending upwards with national talent and maybe this is a reason for this.

In Alumni news, Eric Lampe was selected and played for the ECHL All Star Team a few nights ago in Bakersfield, CA against former classmate Jean Marc Beaudoin and the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. The game was aired on NHL Network the following and it was fun to watch the two along with former Yalie Marc Arcobello play at a high level. In fact, in the skills competition the previous night, Mr. Lampe dazzled all as he won the fastest skater competition. In the game itself, Lampe assisted on two goals and scored the game's final goal on a deflection late. Congrats Eric! Below is the box score and the skills competition results.

Jamie Bates continues to play well in his call up to San Antonio of the AHL with 6 points in his 8 games there.

How about Jeremy Langlois?! 7 goals in his last 6 games and playing even better than that.

He was kept off the scoreboard today but had several chances. SLU's Moss stoned him at least 3 times which shows he's at least competing hard and shooting the puck. We both said early on the Langer was one of the guys that needed to step up and he has in a big way.

Well it wasn't a sweep but I'll take the 3 road points anytime. Today they came out the same way they did against Clarkson but SLU picked up their game in the second and gave us all we could handle. I think we were a little gassed towards the end of the 2nd.

Hartzell made some big saves, especially towards the end of 3 and into OT. The 2 he gave up were PPG's, the first being a bouncing re-direction that looked like he never saw. I didn't get a good view of the 2nd but it was a blast from the point. The problem was we took some dumb penalties and that gave SLU the upper hand.

Next weekend will be a real battle against two very good ranked teams.

Quick question for Mark / allnightwong, et al... I was wondering if you knew why Zack Currie had been moving around so often in the line-up. Looking at recent box scores, he's been a left defenseman, right defenseman, and left wing, and that's just within the past 3 games. He didn't even have the same defensive partner in the two games that he played defense. Any guesses?

Nuata (Goalie) - NJ Hitman (EJHL)- 6 foot 6 inches, 235 lbs. This kid is huge and very good. Look him up on the EJHL website. QU is getting a real goalie with this kid. He is going to push whatever starter is there to keep there job.

Awesome find! Like I said, I mainly went by Heisenberg's list. I guess he missed this guy simply because the announcement was made 1/24. Sounds like an amazing player with some freakish size. Can't wait to see him in blue and gold.

I agree with Mark and acknowledge that Currie's versatility definitely has something to do with it. But we have a stockpile of defensemen (Davies, Currie, Hansen, Dalsy, Glaics, Barron, Tolkinen, Hibbeler, Tyson) so I think Rand may be grooming players like Currie, Hibbeler and Tyson for a forward role next season when even more talent will be added to the D core. Danny Federico and Jack Callahan will join the fray and scratching 3 to 4 talented Dmen every night is never a healthy thing. I think it's more of an attempt to clear space for the future on the blue line.

I have a dirty monitor on my laptop and it has a speck of something on it when I looked at the quote above your post I thought it said 5' 6" and 235 lbs. and I'm thinking you got some short, fat, kid and was wondering how in blazes he could be so good? I've often wondered (joking aside) if you found someone who albeit out of shape but had coordination and was athletic that weighed about 350 lbs. and stuck him in goal what would happen?? I mean with equipment on someone like that would take up the whole net!!!!!!

Outdated response here, but the first period of the Q game was one of the worst periods I've seen Clarkson play all year, and I was at the 8-1 Union drubbing. We were lucky to get out of that period down only 2. Clarkson had no jump at all and Q took full advantage - just like any ECAC team worth anything will.

2nd and 3rd periods were much more even, and Clarkson really brought it in the last five or so minutes of the 3rd. We had a lot of chances to tie it up including one in the last minute or so where the puck slid about two inches too far for DeFazio to grab and bury into a wide open net. Clarkson's been trying to crash the net so hard this season I've seen them overskate pucks like that multiple times in every game. Crash the net by all means, but crash it in an intelligent, controlled manner - that's how you get rebound goals.
