I chuckle when a rival team loses players because they can't handle the school work, has to dismiss a player or remove his captain's letter for violating team rules or discipline several for being in a car hit by a train.

If you are referring to the incident with the BC players, no players were disciplined because the driver wasn't drinking (there was an open container in the car) and the MBTA investigation found that the T driver was doing something like 35 mph in a 10 mph zone. If you are going to give props to Umile for running a clean program, I don't think that BC and York are a very good example of a program you wouldn't be proud of due to academic and legal issues.

Dan Correale, a 91 from the Grand Prairie Storm of the AJHL, has committed to UNH for the fall of 2012 (http://www.ajhl.ca/news.html?newsID=95).
He is a left wing with 4-10-14 in 14 games this season. He is the 4th forward to commit for 2012, despite only losing three to graduation that spring. Those graduating are a center and two right wings. The four coming in will be three left wings and a right wing. Interesting.

Right you are, Nick. He'll be the first player to enter UNH as a 21 year old since the fall of 07 (Mike Beck). Another reason why it appears to be a curious commitment.

Dan Correale (http://www.gpstorm.com/team.aspx?div=2010-2011 Roster&tid=123) (Grande Prairie/Alberta Junior Hockey League) - 14 GP, 4-10-14, 4 PIM

The potential advantages of a player committing at age 19 and joining the team at age 21 are that the player's decision is likely to be more mature (i.e., he won't change his mind like a 16-year-old) and his skills may be more developed.

The audio interview with Dan Correale was a great find, i'zon.
In the interview, Correale refers to "Mike" who "saved my hockey career." He is referring to Mike Vandekamp who, as the coach and general manager of the Grande Prairie Storm, acquired Correale last year from the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL. (http://www.vulcanadvocate.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?archive=true&e=1724734) Apparently, Correale began his Junior 'A' career as a 15-year-old in 2007. After two lackluster seasons with the Spruce Kings, he had a solid season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League scoring 11 goals and 28 assists in 60 games. In 9 playoff games last season, Correale scored 5 goals and 2 assists.

On the just released NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch list (http://www.nhl.com/league/ext/2011%20NHL%20Entry%20Draft/PlayersToWatch2011.pdf) Eric Chevrier and Mike Vecchione are ranked as "C Players". In the scouting vernacular, these UNH recruits are considered "a player that Central Scouting is tracking, a potential late round selection in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft."

According to USHR.com, Another commitment from the formerly Team Maryland, now the DC Capitals.

But UNH, which has recruited Nick Sorkin, Casey Thrush, and Maxim Gaudreault off Team Maryland in recent years, is still getting their best players, having just beaten out Northeastern University for 61, 163 lb. LD Dylan Maller, a 4/23/94 birthdate from Parkland, Florida.

Maller, who played for the Palm Beach Hawks Jr. B (MJHL) last season, is, according to his coach, Jason Kersner, a fantastic skater both forward and backward and when you couple that with his size and what his size is going to be then youve got a player with not only college, but pro potential, too....

...Hes scheduled to arrive at UNH in the fall of 13. Next season, depending on his progress, Maller will likely either return to the DC Capitals or go to the USHL.

6' 1" at 16 years old? He must pronounce his last name "Mauler."

Well good. Finally some younger talent. Let's keep it up.

I saw a Team Illinois kid at the Michigan game last weekend, anyone have any word on any players from there?

The Beantown Classic tournament was in town last weekend at the Whitt and in Exeter. Coaches were working the recruits all weekend.
Maller is the first 94 commit and the first for the incoming class of 2013.

Shouldn't the Beantown Classic be in... ya know, like... Beantown? That's like having only 2 teams in the Frozen Four. Or a 1-game World Series.

It could be JT Compher, one of the top 95 born players in the country.

Sorry to quell the optimism, and it's better that he has committed than not, but I'll believe it when I see him on the ice in Durham. Wearing a 'Cats sweater, that is.
Hey, 3 years is a long time, and minds can change, as we have all seen.

No optimism quelled. I simply mentioned that he is the first 94 to commit and the first for 2013. Whether or not he commits is a moot point, as the future looks good on the blueline and losing him wouldn't have the same effect as losing a Matt White, Ryan Bourque or Cam Reid would. UNH has been slow in committing players for future classes. Let's compare where they are at in comparison to some other Hockey East teams...
UNH: one 94, one for 2013.
BC: six 94's and three 95's; four for 2013 and one for 2014.
BU: two 94's and two 95's; two for 2013 and one for 2014.
Maine: two 94's, one of whom appears to be the best player to come out of the state of New Hampshire in a few years.
Merrimack: three 94's; all for 2013.
Northeasterm: four 94's and a bunch of late 93's; two or three for 2013.
Vermont: three 94's; one for 2013.
