Regardless of what happens tonight, this has been one of Coach Umilie's greatest coaching jobs. When I drove over for the exhibition game in October what did I know beyond the fabulous senior line and Blake? I knew we had lost a Hobey Baker finalist, including JVR we had lost (inexplicably) the top recruit from the last four classes, we had an undersized defense, and a goalie I had never seen play even for a minute... and here we sit, one game from the Frozen Four! With these magnificent recruiting classes ahead, it is great to proudly be a UNH hockey fan. Thanks Coach.

I would say that the team is over performing given some of their top losses, and even making steps in the NCAAs to play consistant hard faught games. They beat higher ranked seeds 3 years in a row , and they kept 2/3 teams to only one goal despite pretty close games (one against a national champ). I thought RIT was a regression, but it seemed this year with marked improvements in the HE tourny, AND the NCAAs, this clubs leadership including the staff are doing better to mentally prepare their players.

lets hope some of our key players stay, some of the new guys can chip in, and a few suprises and maybe a FF is within reach!

Agreed it seems the program is slowly growing, learning to be a tougher out. RIT now appears to be a painful lesson about getting ahead of yourself after one game.

Very nice comments on the end to the UNH season by the commissioner on the hockey east website.

COMMISSIONER's CORNER by Joe Bertagna

"And then there was the near-perfect performance put forth by UNH against a very good Miami team on Saturday afternoon. It is too bad that so many people focus only on titles and trophies. UNH performed better than expected all year and, in the end, went farther than any other Hockey East team. Much of their fan base never seems to fully appreciate what Coach Umile and his staff accomplish year after year. Saturday's triumph over the Redhawks was perhaps the best display of coaching we saw all year."

He also had some nice commments about Boston College and Merrimack. My hats off to those two teams. But I think Bertagna's quote says it all about UNH. They had a great season, and the coaching staff should not be overlooked. Here's to a wonderful season by the Wildcats, and let's count down the days until we can start the quest all over again.

looks like 2 assists, CHC!..
http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/playerpage.html?playerid=3213703&seasonid=5967

Really tough to tell what kind of player Hill is- He appears to be a scrappy kid, 3 shorties, couple 2-3 penalty minutes! a few "on ice" U-tube fights. Waterloo, is not exactly a good team either.. Top scorers only had 30pts, Hill had 25.

IIRC, he and K. Smith were decently sought after after their Team Comcast resluts.

On another note- C. Thrush- 7points in his last 6 games.

Back in 2009, "The UNH Men's Hockey Blogger Guy" listed Robbie Baillargeon, a forward at Cushing Academy, as a "target" of UNH recruiting:
http://unhhockeyrecruits.blogspot.com/
I don't know where the blogger guy got his information but there have been a couple of interesting develops regarding Baillargeon.

First, on Monday, NHL Central Scouting published "CSS Previews Best of Next Season's Draft Class" which included the following assessment of Baillargeon:

(CSS Scout) "Eggleston also was high on 6-foot, 170-pound right wing Robbie Baillargeon of Cushing Academy in Massachusetts, pointing out his great hands and scoring touch around the cage. Baillargeon was one of the top point-producers in all of New England prep-school hockey this past season, totaling 30 goals and 64 points in 30 games."
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=558216

Second, a poster on the "BU Recruit" thread said the following:

Cushing Academy sophomore Robbie Baillargeon visited BU today. Baillargeon is a forward out of Enfield, CT who has been compared to Nick Bonino.

I'm only speculating but it seems that as Baillargeon's stock in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft has risen, he has been looking seriously at the Hockey East program which has the reputation of being a stopover for NHL-bound prospects.
