Congrats to Kampfer for winning the Cup.

Maybe a championship for Michigan this year too!

I believe they will be playing on the 13th in Columbus as well. Friday the 13th. Yikes.

Is it me, or is the schedule... less impressive than in past years? Now, this might just be the Showcase missing (Union at home on Sunday, that should be a barn-burner), but other than the second series against Miami this schedule looks rather underwhelming. 6 home games total after the GLI. An outdoor game in Cleveland of all places. Good tickets available!

I'll have to look at that October trip to Northern. I thought about it last year, but held out for a St. Paul trip that wound up happening instead. I guess part of my schedule cynicism is because a trip to Northern really should be in the winter. When it coincides with football season some of the charm wears off.

From Ohio State's website containing their schedule announcement, the outdoor game fell through, and the 4th Ohio State game will be played Saturday in Columbus.

The pdf file of their schedule still has the location for that game listed as TBD, and the schedule announcement makes no mention of the outdoor game. The obvious conclusion would be "still in negotiations/planning".

I thought I read January 14th for the second game. Oh well, I guess we'll find out for sure sooner or later.

more of a BCS style of scheduling, maybe?

Another board has it being good for player development. Which is an ok opinion, but since I have to pay to have tickets, I'd rather see more good than weak.

As for so few home games after the GLI- well, I suppose that limits the really bad weather we would have to walk in....

Are you talking about Brian of MgoBlog? I guess taking it easy on a young team makes sense. I have serious doubts about Michigan's ability to maintain the Streak this year, but we'll see. Opening with Bentley isn't going to turn any heads around town, but there's some logic in giving the team time to gel and develop whatever strategy Red wants to win with this season. (Seriously, did we just make it to the national title game playing a defense-first-and-always strategy?) There are only two years of this kind of scheduling left before The Change anyway, so perhaps this is to be expected.

Our schedule is not that easy.
St lawrence was has some good young talent and Union was 1st in the ECAC last year.
Both are not gimmes.

Have to like our incoming class. Smart thinking loading them up with games early so they can gel and excel

Michigan's schedule isn't any different than in the past for the most part, except it is front end loaded at home this season. There are no WCHA teams scheduled due to the CHS going away, and a shot at playing MTU in the GLI. If you look at the home nc schedules from the past ten years, it has been filled with mid-lower level Atlantic conferences teams (Niagara, Mercyhurst, Quinnipiac, U-Conn) same with ECAC teams (St. Lawrence, Harvard about ten years ago,) and a mix of HEA teams (BC, BU, UNH, N'Eastern, Merrimack, U-Mass-Lowell.) UAH was on the schedule in 06-07.

ALL of Michigan's nc games (in the past decade) against the WCHA have been on neutral or visiting ice- CC, UND, Minn-Duluth, AA-with the only exception being last season with UNO AND the CHS games. Michigan has gone out east more in the past few years- BU and UNH. Other teams like Providence, BC, BU, RPI have come to the GLI, also. Adding good teams like Union and N'Eastern to replace Minnesota and Wisconsin shouldn't hurt the PWR too much, except for the fact that their residual SOS isn't as strong as the Gophers and Badgers.

I don't know why WCHA teams don't want to come into Yost during the regular season- could be they want a return trip to their rink- but it's disappointing. I know Michigan will be in the Mav Stampede in the future. I thought it was fun having Maine, Denver, CC and SCSU into Yost for the NCAA tourney. ;)

As a fan, which would you rather see- Bently or BU? Niagra or North Dakota? Northeastern and Union are fine. But even they don't have the name recognition of the rivals that rock Yost.

Just one of those swaps would be better for the fan. Even if Union is better than BU or BC- fans appreciate BU and BC more. I will predict right now that the game atmosphere a few years ago when BU came to town will be far, far better than Union this fall. EDIT- that's not a fair prediction I see- since Union is over Thanksgiving. But no way will fans come out in droves to see Niagra or Bently like the BU weekends we've had.

Anyway, we will see. I do want to give others games, but just one marquee NC game a year at Yost would be nice.

Niagara is not a team you'd want to overlook, either. RPI made that mistake a couple years ago. I remember a similar mistake being made with "the weakest 4th team in GLI history". ;)

Isn't this the first time you guys have ever played Union College?
