No way are those 3 worse than UMICH Hockey Rulz or boot walt kyle. CCHA definitely has worse doosh posters.

Not wanting college hockey to be played by college students is better? Then again I don't frequent the western threads...

I saw the that thread, I was dumbfounded by the utter stupidity.

That could be considered a good thing. Talk with OnionMan, Osrojo, or that other Cornell dooshbag and you will think the academics is a point in favor of the CCHA.

Jcarter, I couldn't agree more.

That's like the second or third time now in just a few weeks that has happened:confused:

The only state school in the ECAC is Cornell. The only private school in the CCHA is Notre Dame.

So if Cornell joined the CCHA and Notre Dame joined the ECAC, and my aunt weighs as much as a duck, we'd have a meaningful topic?

Since when is Cornell a public state school?

Cornell Website (http://www.cornell.edu/about/)

Both a private university and the land-grant institution of New York State, Cornell University is the most educationally diverse member of the Ivy League.

This again?

Cornell is a purely private entity that happens to have long-term contracts with the state of New York to operate and administer a few colleges on behalf of the state. One of the terms of the contract with the state is that Cornell is required to give tuition discounts to New York residents who enroll in those colleges. It is in no way a public university or part of the SUNY system.

The land grant act merely ceded federally owned land to the states so that they could sell the land for the purpose of setting up universities. There were a few stipulations on the universities founded - for example, that they should offer instruction in military service, agriculture, and "mechanic and industrial arts." However, there was no stipulation that the universities must be public institutions. New York decided to pool its land-grant money with money from private donors (including Ezra Cornell) to found a private land grant university.

According to the wiki page for Cornell, there are only 2 private land grant universities, but it doesn't say what the other one is. Anyone else know? (since it's the offseason)

Cornell is a purely private entity that happens to have long-term contracts with the state of New York to operate and administer a few colleges on behalf of the state...
...which are partly funded by us taxpayers of the great state of New York.
One of the terms of the contract with the state is that Cornell is required to give tuition discounts to New York residents who enroll in those colleges...
...because the state taxpayers are partly funding the operating costs of those three schools.

-Lower tuition
-Different admission requirements*
-At least somewhat state-funded
-Land Grant
As you stated, it really is not a public or SUNY school. But it sure is similar .

* all 14 of Cornell's colleges have their own admission requirements, according to their own website.

One thing I do know is the Cornell grads that I've known try to make it clear to anyone who wants to know that there is a distinction between the 11 colleges not considered part of the Land Grant and the 3 colleges that are. Maybe the ones I know have a chip on their shoulders or something, but there is some reason they want others to know which part of Cornell they really got a degree from.

Anybody have:

The CCHA/ECAC Conference records against each other
The CCHA/ECAC Conference records against other conferences
CCHA Attendance
ECAC Attendance
CCHA Players in the NHL
ECAC Players in the NHL
Most NCAA Bids
Most NCAA Championships
TV Coverage?

That should be a huge indicator who is better.

My ballot, but I'm biased is the CCHA. With the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame. The television coverage of Fox Sports Detroit, Fox Sports Detroit Plus, CBS College Sports, Comcast Local, ESPNU, Big Ten Network, Ohio News Network (ONN), Buckeye Cable, (Toronto Maple) Leafs TV, NHL Network... maximizes the CCHA conference.

Wait a minute. LSSU has actually done something worth noting in their program's history. While we all know that SLU fans are raising a banner for beating BC in the Denver Cup last season, I don't think you can make St Lawrence a comparable to LSSU without any REAL banners.

(sidenote... if we were comparing ECAC to HE, SLU and UNH would be a match made in heaven... both currently hold a losing streak of several games vs. BC in the NCAAs, have 2 national runner up trophies and no titles, and their fans raise banners for beating BC in the regular season).
