But there's another interesting tidbit in there. In 2013, the Women's Lax will be a joint DII/DIII championship. If its good enough in Women's Lacrosse, why not men's ice hockey?

Great find Joe! And no its not getting old, Lake Placid is a great place to hold the D III championships. Fun times, even though the St.Norbert fans I met can "out adult beverage" me.

it is a great place, but it a pain in the ash to get there from the "west"

I can understand your issue. It is a hard to place to get to from the West. However, once the D III fans roll into the town, we own it.

Not necessarily. It could mean that the D-II and D-III women's lax champioships are at the same site, like the men's D-I,II. & III lax finals.

Further giveaway that they are separate championships is that it does not say National Collegiate......

Definitely. But in all honesty, 2/3 of DIII is in the east, so it makes sense that at least 2/3 of the time the predetermined site should be in the east.

Since the switch to predetermined sites (and year before):
                  (2007: West -eastern winner)
                  2008: East -western winner
                  2009: East -eastern winner
                  2010: East -eastern winner
                  2011:West
                  2012: East
                  2013: East

That's a 5/1 split (5/2 if you count 2007), with the west winning 25% of the time (and being in the final game 75%).

I'll admit, the hosting numbers are a bit lopsided, but that's Ridder Arena's fault, not NCAA's. If we had 2010 and 2011 in Ridder Arena (which I know wasn't actually discussed, but for argument's sake...), the split would be 6/3since 2007, which matches the 47/24 (darn close to 2/1) split in teams in DIII.

Alas, they are seperate championships hosted at a joint site, and have been for awhile.

The joint DII/DIII 2009 championships were held in Salem, VA.

2011 will be at Adelphi - the first host for the Division II and III Women's Lacrosse Championship from the state of New York..
