In other news, rampant and unfounded speculation on Nick Saban leaving the Miami Doplhins was put to rest...oh wait.

Until he signs on the dotted line, nothing will surprise me. And I still say it better have a UMaine friendly buyout opton after years one and/or two.

Unfounded. No NCAAs 3 years in a row, no Garden 3 years in a row, multiple guys kicked out of the program for character issues, consecutive pitiful recrutiing classes and a midseason schnide that ruined this past season.

And I like the guy and believe we should be in St. Paul next year. But unfounded...no.

Maine Hockey: I want to believe
        43-21-4 (.662) in games I attended over 4 years as a student
        104-47-14 (.669) in that time
        3x FROZEN FOUR

11-20-2 in games I've attended since. (2-2-1 under Red)

The trouble with that argument is that all those things didn't happen simultaneously. 3 years of no NCAAs are the last 3 years. No Garden was 06-08. There have been some pitiful recruiting classes, but not during the 3 years we haven't made the NCAAs.

Last years freshmen had an immediate impact. Nyquist/Flynn/Abbott/O'Neill is enough to make '08 unpitiful. Sweetland/House/Dee/Dimmen is enough to make '07 productive. And a lot of the 'character' guys came in the year before, so we wont even KNOW if that class would have been a failure on the ice, and even that class was headlined by Teddy.

When we scoff at last years seniors, lets just remember that they were pretty much the debris leftover after the storm that overtook that years' class....oh, and an underachieving Dartmouth transfer

The article has one bit of truth anyway....Corkum will still be behind the bench.....I see the injury excuse is still alive and well.

The extention is coming. But like Bosox said, it BETTER have a buyout for years 1 and 2. Although he may only get 3 years. In that case there won't be any buyout clause.

That looks about right. With injuries, performance issues, wear and tear etc, the roster has to be oversized. I don't know if they're still playing it, but back in the day they used to have a Sunday night game for the guys who didn't play that weekend. IIRC, we had 33 or 34 players on the roster in '93.

I believe the fact that those things didnt happen at the same time makes it worse. Blame is to be shared, most og the awful recruiting classes were guy perrons. But the buck stopa with whitehead. To say criticism of a man who did as poor a job as he did in 08 and 09 is unfounded, to me, just isnt accurate.

There were 31 players on the 92-93 roster--4 goalies, 8 defense, 19 forwards.
