Article on the latest regarding the proposed arena in Bangor.

Isn't it great that Bangor has eliminated itself from contention to host an NCAA Ice Hockey Regional even before they put a shovel in the dirt? Those some smart folks up there.........

(Yeah, yeah........I know. It would be hard to compete with all of these other cities that are drawing 3 or 4K per session. )

Agreed but you have to admitt, the hotel situation sucks in Bangor/Orono

Comfort inn is considered 4 star because of its proximity to the mall

Black Bear Inn goes to teams only and the rest are a farce

The hotel situation is much better than it was two years ago. The casino has a large hotel and there are two new ones by the Mall that opened in the last year or so.

That is really a non issue, even if the arena that was proposed, was big enough, the chances of getting a regional in Bangor are almost nil.

Sandie, why do you still think that the City of Bangor should build an arena large enough to host a regional, when the extra seats that would be needed would never be filled for any other event. Not to mention the added cost for the larger area and the infastructure for an ice surface.

Yeah.......a few million for 2,000 extra seats and ice. Maybe they can dip into the $25 million budget for ballrooms, skybridges and plazas!

Why do you think that the chances of Bangor hosting would be nill when there would be infrastructure (a new arena, airport, easy driving access) in place as well as a tradition of VERY strong support for collegiate hockey in the area??? Add to that the recent locales that have drawn crappy attendance for Regionals.......why wouldn't the NCAA want to try something new? You sound like a typical old school Mainer.....a negative and defeatist attitude from the get go. And as far as extra seats go........those extra seats may come in useful for these things called concerts......better and bigger acts.......they help pay the bills to run the place.

Ahhhhhhhhh.... pretty sure the NCAA wouldn't want to block off rooms at a casino-hotel resort. Ya know, with that whole anti-gambling thing (insert BC gambling scandal joke here)

Agreed. The place in Maine to do it would be Portland.

I'm not sure that construction manager is qualified. :)

Phukit...build something, anything. But seriously, economies go in cycles and besides, who doesnt buy a ticket in any economy because of price? No one is the obvious answer....if its attractive and you want you go, you pay the price, regardless. I'd shoot for 18,000 capacity... the incremental costs are negiligible, and the management fee increases correspondingly. :D

Agreed because you don't like Bangor or what???? The NCAA will go wherever the winning Regional bids come from......and it would definitely look positively on Bangor if they delivered the goods ($$$) and put fannies in the seats. If we're going by recent Regional attendance figures......I'd say that Bangor would most certainly be considered a strong candidate to host. All that being said......it's all a moot point right now because the lame brains in charge think that 5,800 permanent seats and no ice is the way to go......

It's unfortunate that those in charge don't understand this concept.

Hilton 2 expensive ?

Or Fairfield Inn, or Hampton Inn, or (God forgive me) Holiday Inn or on and on and on. Rooms are not a problem so long as the schedule doesnt conflict with the annual Paul Bunyan snowmobile race. :D

When? About 3 months ago. I owned about 10 million in real estate there for years, still have 40 units in Orono now.

That ones ok... Never real big on parking and staying at airport where you can hear planes all night while trying to sleep

I dont want to be to petty but if you cant have room service or breakfast in bed etc, it is not much of a weekend. You need a Wyndham etc

I love Bangor/Orono but the hotels there blow big time
Stayed in the Holiday Inn this summer and still have a head ache from the crap pillows
