    Re: 2010-11 Schedules

    Michigan State's schedule will include
    - as best as I can surmise from the new CCHA alignment and current clustering

1st or 2nd weekend home pair against Maine
A 2-game tournament invitation in October
    GLI (home team)
4 games vs. Notre Dame, Michigan and Bowling Green
2 games vs. Ohio State (away), Lake Superior (away), Ferris State (?), Miami (home), Alaska (home), Northern (home) and Western Michigan (?)

I'm thinking we'll have a 3rd non-conference pair of games to fill the void left by the demise of our version of the College Hockey Showcase.

Does anyone remember who was invited to this year's GLI?

      Re: 2010-11 Schedules

I don't know specifics, just heard around the rink, but I believe UNH is going to Miami for 2, and to Cornell (not sure if its for 2 or just 1 like Cornell's trip out this season). They'll certainly have Dartmouth in Manchester. Not sure who they'll be hosting next year, hopefully a good WCHA opponent..

        Re: 2010-11 Schedules

I believe Maine, as owls said, will be going to Michigan St. for 2. I also heard that we are hosting North Dakota for 2. The Florida College Classic (which is hosted by both us and cornell) will have Miami and i think St. Cloud. Thats all i've heard so far.
It may be 10 below, Under 5 feet of snow,
But no matter where we go, WE ALL LOVE ORONO!!!

That can't work. An odd number of teams (11) can't each have an odd number of cluster-mates (3).

I don't have any idea what kind of schedule we are going to see in the CCHA. The possibilities...
          2 games each (20 total)
2 games each against 8 teams, 4 against the other 2 teams (24 total)
2 games each against 6 teams, 4 against the other 4 teams (28 total)
          2 games each, plus 1 more against 2, 4, 6, or 8 others (22, 24, 26, or 28 total)
          3 games each (30 total)

I am just guessing, but I figure that a 24, 26 or 28-game schedule is most likely.

"The game of hockey, though much in vogue on the ice in New England and other parts of the United States, is not much known here."

Probably a double rivals schedule where each team has 2 teams they play 4 times every year (not a set of 3 teams that play each other every year, Team A can be rivals with B & C while C is rivals with A & D, etc) and then an additional rotating 2 teams x4, 3 teams x2 @home, 3 teams x2 away.

St. Cloud will be hosting Miami the first series of the year, should be two great games again (but hopefully with different results!)

Will this be a one season thing or will they come to Marquette the following season?

It was in the Madison papers a few months ago as tentative, so things could of always changed as well.

The CCHA still hasn't decided on a 24 or 28 game conference schedule yet. From what I've heard, the 24 game version would be this: Alaska would not have a rival, and continue on their pattern of an extra series with each team over a five year period, simply dropping their four games with Nebraska. The other teams would play their rival 4 times every year, have an extra series with Alaska once every five (like they do now), and fill the other holes with the other eight teams (11 minus yourself, your rival and Alaska) over a 10 year period with a single extra series.

It won't be 26 since you can't do 13-13 because of Alaska.
