1. The hit was a charge.

Agreed.

2. The hit was to the head.

I think this is debatable, but even if incidentally, yes that's grounds for additional punishment. But it doesn't follow that it was intentional/malicious.

3. The player left his feet.

Again, I think this is debatable. I didn't see where he left his feet in an effort to launch himself at Wehrs. His feet left the ice upon impact, which may be just as bad in the end, but it also does not lead to the conclusion that Frattin meant to injure him or recklessly disregarded that possibility.

Only ******* who play girl games get knocked out of games after hits like that. Especially ******* who can't keep their head up.

I haven't made any of these statements at all. I do think Wehrs was acting like a girl at times during the series, but I have not said, nor do I believe, that he left the game because he's a pu$$y. I did suggest, however, that if he had been playing with as much intensity as Frattin he may not have gotten the worst of that hit. And I'm not sure if he had his head up or not...it appears in the video that he is reaching to play the puck but then sees Frattin coming and starts to brace for the impact rather than attempt to counter it.

The act of leaping has never been - nor will it ever be - demonstrated within the confines of a single frame. I repeat, you are smarter than to make such an argument.

You are being a bit literal here if you think that I am saying that motion can be captured in still frame, aren't you? I am suggesting that there is no still frame between those that show his feet on the ice making body contact and the one that shows him well after contact with his feet in the air. So some interpretation of what happened is still reasonable

You know, he probably friggin jumped him. But the metaphysical certainty that the sophomores on this board use to describe and condemn frattin's intent is tiresome and fueled by bitterness and humiliation.

There you go again contributing your insightful commentary. Brilliant.
Wow! His response is what many people are thinking! I really hope Rinkpig, VarsityWi and Socalsioux are all your alter egos. Four people that dumb is a lot scarier to think about than just one of you being this stupid.

To this end I have your back. I don't hold ill will of the young man at this point (although to be sure his drinking incidents do little for his image) and judging him should end there imho.

I think most posters on here and the league agree it was a vicious hit. Even if Wehrs somehow skated off it doesn't change the fact that it was measured and vicious deserving of the suspension.

After further review, I'd like to overturn my previous comments about the hit. My initial assessment was based on seeing it live and looking at a few of the still photos. I just watched the video (live & replays) several times on huskyhockey2000's blog, and I agree that Frattin (a) definitely intended and did aim high on Wehrs, (b) definitely jumped at/into him, and (c) likely (although it was hard to see) made contact with his head.

Before I had thought Frattin skated at him from quite a distance, but looking at it this time it seems he had speed but wasn't necessarily running at him--he starts gliding in the corner just before delivering the check. It's also hard to say whether he was "lining him up."

With all that said, it most definitely was a dangerous and unnecessary hit by Frattin. The suspension was deserved, and a game DQ would have been appropriate.

I hope Wehrs recovers quickly and fully--I don't wish that result on anyone, regardless of what jersey they wear.

In your opinion it was a vicious hit. Can you separate your view from the views of others, or are you right because you said it?

There are a number of varying opinions about the severity of the hit itself, as opposed to the resulting injury. It's unfortunate that Wehrs had to leave the game, but the fact he did doesn't automatically make Frattin's actions malicious. If instead he had gotten up and kept skating, would you be saying the check was dirty/cheap/vicious?

And has it even been confirmed that Wehrs suffered a head injury of any kind? I've heard he has a shoulder injury and that's it.

You said the same thing about Marvin's hit on Genoway right?

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/moose/gregoire-a-prime-time-player-88080167.html

Here one reporter's assessment of the Marvin hit on Genoway.

Genoway, a talented offensive defenceman, has been out since the ninth game of the season because of a concussion. He was checked from behind and had his head brutally driven into the glass by St. Cloud's Aaron Marvin, a disgraceful incident in that he had already gotten rid of the puck and been bumped into the boards by another St. Cloud player before Marvin even arrived.

A one-game suspension for Marvin's shot to the head is pretty ****ing proof that the WCHA isn't too concerned with the recent rash of head shots and concussions in the hockey world.
