If they were going to do this anywhere and not have to worry about getting people to show up, it should have been at the Super Dome in New Orleans. No problem getting the 70K or so to watch hockey down there, regardless of who's in the Frozen Four. Really, it could be Bimidji, Union, Merrimac and UAH and the place would still be filled with boozed up and falling down hockey fans.

The problem even bigger than the concept is the place. Detroit sucks. Reading The Economist last week, there's a proposal by the mayor to level a third of the city and just turn it into nothing, because 40 square miles of the place is abandonded. That's ridiculous and not the kind of setting you want to be in for the sport's signature event.

I agree 100% with the idea that once in awhile you need to push the envelope and see what happens. Anaheim for example, which I believe is the last one not to sell out? No harm in trying. DC may have been considered a reach, but it was wildly successful. I just can't fathom why they picked one of the worst cities in the country to try this in.

It's a big hockey town, centrally located in college hockey territory. Michigan and Michigan State fans will still turn out, even if neither one is playing, and so will other CCHA fans in lesser numbers. At least one of the CCHA schools will likely be in the Frozen Four, though it might not be one of the Michigan schools. Detroit is a major airline hub and flights aren't too expensive, and it's within a long day's drive from nearly every hockey school (minus the Alaskans, the Coloradans, North Dakota, Maine and Bemidji.) The entertainment district of Detroit is right next to Ford Field and is protected well by police, and one could always cross to Windsor if you'd rather not patronize those establishments.

        Makes sense to me.

Considering they just recently held a successful FF in St. Louis, I don't see much of a difference other than city/venue size and hockey awareness. But hey, don't let me get in the way of your arrogant, "ANYBODY BUT DETOILET!11!!1!" opinion based on the media's negativity, because it's obvious that no one is going to change your mind.

How could anyone have possibly enjoyed the Washington DC Frozen Four when 1 in 5 people there live in poverty?

Definitely had this idea when I was down there for the NFC championship. We could have a helluva good time with a frozen 4 in that city.

I'm assuming that Calcutta and Fallujah were booked in early April? Even if my school makes it to the Frozen Four, I have no desire to go to Detroit. I went there once and the city is one big soup kitchen.

I'd rather have that than going to a city where 1 in 5 people are victims of homicide.

Well, ya know, other than the fact that Washington is a world-class city with a few million desirable tourist attractions, I guess it's probably similar to Detroit!

If Washington is "world-class", Detroit is "world-a_s_s"...

Trivino has never been one of those players. Even outside of the rink, he'll say hi and is plenty of friendly, but has never been even close to saying or doing anything inappropriate.

You all can say what you want about Detroit and the venue, but in 10 years, is it really going to be that big of a deal that it was in Detroit if your team makes it and wins the whole **** thing. Do you really want to sit there and not go watch in person your school and your team go and collect their National Championship, one that will give you Bragging Rights on here for a whole year, and can often be pulled out to use later on?? And hell, if nothing more, they're their and they don't win, eh, at least you can go get a "I survived Detroit" T-shirt.

Yeah, I hear you man. Imagine leaving beautiful PROVIDENCE, flying into the Detroit Airport (http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/02/24...dy/index.html), and then having to spend a weekend watching 3 amazing hockey games in a ultra-modern NFL stadium with all the brand new casinos right next to it. Yeah, you really might as well just go to Kabul, they have it so much better than us poor saps in Michigan....
