Boy you screwed up!!!! Armydad (the PC thread's official troll) has them finishing 5th in HE! So they've got that going for them!!!

My son has two games at Schneider Arena this year vs. the Providence Capitals. Any chance the PC Friars want to have a game or mini-one-on-one between periods to entertain the youth hockey parents in attendance while they wait for the EHF game to continue? :)

(For the record, as a longtime fan of Hockey East, it truly sucks to see PC hit the skids like this).

Guess the question I'd have to ask is why after 5 seasons you'd expect it to be any different. That's not exactly a small sample size there. We've moved way beyond that initial "2 to 3 seasons to find out what you've got" phase, it's pretty obvious now what kind of cycle PC is in and -- no matter who you want to blame -- there is no doubt PC hockey is in a worse state now than when Army inherited it. I think that's pretty indisputable.

To be honest, the conference is still comparatively weak in terms of top to bottom (not saying BC won't win another title, it's entirely possible), so how much worse CAN things get? There could be some small improvement, maybe a move to 8th and cracking the post-season (not any kind of accomplishment in itself -- just better than things have been), but in the big picture I don't see any major upswell in terms of an actual "turnaround" happening here simply because they've done nothing to make you think they care. As much as Hokydud will tell us how excited everyone ought to be, there's no evidence anywhere (if there is, kindly point to it) to indicate that things are really going to change. The performance of the people running this program is dismal -- not an opinion, a fact -- and no changes were made. That doesn't exactly instill a feeling of optimism, nor will the HE coaches poll when it comes out and the Friars are almost assured of being placed the lowest in their history.

Tell you what, I'll put on the rose-colored glasses for a second: I do think Army will break his two-year running streak of winning 1 game after January 16th (are people even aware of this insane fact? It's one of the worst blemishes I've seen on any coach's record, ever). That mark is just begging to be broken. Maybe they'll throw a ticker-tape parade when it happens.

On a more serious note, I have no evidence to support my theory, and I'm certainly not an "insider" these days, but I still can't imagine this program isn't close to being on life support. That's just my gut reaction to conversations I've had here and there, and more over, the school's seeming disinterest in the program, the rink, the coach, everything. Perhaps they're not investing in it because the plug is eventually going to be pulled anyway. Hockey programs are quite costly -- the women's program doesn't generate any dollars (women's hockey doesn't in general), the men's program can but has got to be losing money as well with declining, non-existent attendance year in and year out. You just wonder how long they can sustain that when programs everywhere are being cut.

PC already has a history of dumping athletic programs, even ones that had a track record of success like baseball, so together with the realities of today's economic climate, and the program's expense combined with its now-prolonged lack of success and attendance...even if it's not on the immediate "chopping block," it's certainly a valid question to discuss.

To continue the "who cares" attitude of the AD he has yet to attempt to reschedule two games to afternoon contests so they do not run at the same time as the URI and Alabama basketball games........where do you think the student body will be those nights ??? Making the two days a sports bonanza by having a Hockey game in the afternoon and a Basketball game at night would surely help the Hockey program if he really cared.......it wilol be hard to do once the season starts but is a doable thing now

Maybe so, but it has become irrelevant.

zero chance I'll stop trolling this site and making like I have inside information when I don't.

You must not have read that they killed a very successful baseball program already there, dope.

Zero chance of you ever getting a clue I guess Mr. Inside(the men's room stall) Information.

It not only has become irrelevant, but the way they treat it, they certainly aren't acting as if it's something they actually care about.

From USHR:

Stan Moore, who has been coaching at the college level for over 25 years and is one of the game's institutions, has retired, suddenly, from the Providence College staff. Moore, whose wife is a dean at Colby College and whose children are attending school in Waterville, apparently wanted to see his kids grow up. Can't knock that. At any rate, Providence head coach Tim Army has to find someone quickly. Former PC Friar forward Devin Rask, currently an assistant at UConn, has reportedly put in for the job. No doubt, there will be others.

Saw the Moore leaving thing coming for the last few years - with his family in Maine, and him being in Rhody. May not be the worst thing, as a different voice on the coaching staff - couldn't hurt.
