  • DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 2/22-2/28

Sorry it's so late again. This time, I have a legitimate excuse, considering I spent a good portion of last night in the ER! Anyway, enough about me...

Congratulations to Geneseo's Cory Gershon. His weekend of 62 save, .969 save percentage, and 1.00 Goals Against Average would have been respectable against any opponent. However, to put up those kind of numbers and record a win against then number 1 Oswego, snapping a 22-game winning streak, in the final weekend of the Regular Season is a different matter altogether. Congratulations Cory Gershon. You treated it as your championship game, and you won. Until next season!

And now, I like to give you all at least 24 hours, so... Nominations will be open until 12pmET on Wednesday.

This week, in the spirit of the song by the Little River Band, I'm nominating Augsburg's Justin Lochner - while he did loose with less than 90 seconds remaining in the 4th OT, he nevertheless was impressive, stopping 16 of 17 shots in the 4th 20minute OT alone. This was Justin's second straight night of multiple OT's, which saw him stop a total of 137 shots while playing 228.01 minutes in less than 36hours!

And just a side note: Due to a limited number of teams playing hereafter, this will be the final Player of the Week poll.

Next weekend, we will open the Player of the Year award nominations. To do what was discussed in a previous week, we will need a LOT of nominations, both East and West, so I'm going to go ahead and give an automatic nomination to all of the POTW winners, including this week's winner, and accept any nominations thereafter. Other than that, I haven't changed the procedure much since this:

Originally posted by CARDS_rule_the_Burgh View Post

        Then, all voters will submit:

*A ranking of the top 5 from that pool, in their opinion. This will be calculated as a Heisman-like vote for Player of the Year

*Their "All-Posters' National Team", and TWO 2nd teams (one consisting of East players, one of west players). Each player on a voter's national team will have 2 points, and each player on their regional teams will earn 2 points. The 3 Forwards, 2 defensemen, and 1 goalie with the most total points in this calculation will be named to the All-Posters' National Team, and highest total points at each position in each region among remaining players will be named to the Posters' Regional Teams.

The end result will be: 1 Player of the Year, 1 All-Posters' National Team, and 2 Posters' Regional Teams (instead of an all-posters' second team)
What I will say is, I agree with prez when he said:
I think we need to limit the amount of players from one team to keep it fair and not have ballot stuffing problem and one team's fan base...like Oswego gets three or four forwards in and they all get first team because Oswego has the most posters on the boards.

My suggestion would be each team should get a max of 2 or 3 at the most forwards eligible, 1 or 2 dman, and 1 goalie.

All-conference teams are done the same way where coaches are only allowed to submit three forwards, two d-men, and 1 goalie from their teams into the pool to be selected.
And I can easily see this as being a problem. Due to unbalanced representation (which is something conferences DON'T have to worry about), I'm going to say 2 forwards, 1 Dman, and 1 Goalie from each team may be in the pool. Ideally, this would be a VERY LARGE pool, to accommodate the 3 teams and then some. Also, to prevent regional bias, I would like each national team vote submitted to include at least one player, of any position, to the national team.

        How I will calculate results
*POTY - Standard poll procedure (First place = 5pts, second place = 4pts, etc)

*Teams - National Team Vote = 2pts, Regional Team Vote = 1pt. Top 3 Forwards, 2 Dmen, and 1 Goalie get the national team nod, and then the next remaining for each region will (obviously) be named to the regional team.

        As I said before,
I think the best way to do the voting would be in much the same way Wormser ran his Mid-Season Posters' Poll (i.e. by e-mail). After the votes have been tallied and the results made known, I'd be more than willing to supply the vote submission to anybody who asked for them (sans names of voters, of course).

If there are any protests to this process , please voice them now.

If he scored 17, I could see him winning this week, but I doubt there's anyone out there that's going to beat out Lochner this week. And rightfully so.

Agreed...but we need atleast two nominations!

And if for nothing else, a nomination brings a small amount of recognition, even if he doesn't win.

Without taking anything away from Justin Lochner...

I think one performance that is going overlooked is how well Josh Swartout played. In that one game, he held Augsburg scoreless for 101 minutes and 33 seconds!
