  • NU Prof's Computer Rankings for Feb. 8

Williams and Bowdoin are the big movers, Williams moving up 20 points and 4 spots in the rankings, and Bowdoin moving up 7 spots and 34 points. Notice how close 3/4/5 are - no statistically significant difference there. In the poll prediction thread there was a lot of discussion as to how to order STS and SNB - no statistical difference (Indices are +/- 10 points)

Re: NU Prof's Computer Rankings for Feb. 8

On the subject of computer rankings, I was looking at the KRACH and it seems that some teams have a game or two missing from their records. I even subtracted the two D2 games for the interlock teams and they still don't seem right. Anyone have an answer?

Well, for one, they're missing teams on the KRACH rankings, such as MSOE.

I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of New England are for some reason not included on the KRACH (all of the other teams are there). Any games that teams have played against these teams haven't counted in either the D-II/D-III or DIII polls.

Its actually been like that all season.

Looks like the voters are learning - except for flipping around slots 3-5 (for which my computer shows no statistically significant difference, their top 6 matches mine, and until we get to the fringes of the top 15 there is good agreement.

          My computer is soooooo smart

Please, I'm joking. (But I do like the alignment, nonetheless.)

Just out of curiosity (for the 80th time, I'm sure), do you have an East only / West only ranking?

I don't but I could do that - I'd just have to filter out the small number of interregional games from the data base. Maybe I'll do that at some point. The main reason I haven't done this is because I expect the East-only or midWest only rankings will be really, really close to what you would find if you just ignored teams in the list from the other region. (I'm sure there would be some shifting - SAL would go down without their win over SNB, etc.)
