  • DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 12/7-12/13

What can possibly be said that would satisfy the wonder of what Neil Musselwhite did this past weekend against Brockport? A shorthanded natural hat trick is something we will probably only see a handful of time in our lifetimes, and when it happens we have to recognize the talents of the player doing it. Even in horribly mismatched games, far more mismatched than an Oswego-Brockport game, this feat is nearly impossible. It involves an incredible amount of athletic ability, speed, and shot accuracy. Musselwhite was also involved in a good portion of that game outside his 3:59 span of goals. He had an even-strength goal in the 1st, and lead Oswego to a victory over Brockport that night. With 5 goals and 1 assist on the week, Neil Musselwhite has been chosen as the DIII Posters' Player of the Week for week of 11/29-12/6. Congratulations to Neil for accomplishing ssuch an amazing and rare feat.

Now, this will be the last installment of the DIII Posters' POTW until the new year. As usual, nominations are due by 12pm ET Monday. Let's finish out the year on a high note!

For better or worse, it also requires you have at least one teammate in the box

The only NHL Short handed Hat Trick:

On March 9, 1991, with Theoren Fleury of the Calgary Flames against the St. Louis Blues, scored with Calgary down a player 5 minutes 52 seconds into the game, then scored again that way 24 seconds into the third period and with 2:25 left in the third period. Oddly, St. Louis had four power plays in that game and the Flames' center scored on three of them. Some advantage.

Kudos to him, Oswego is an OUTSTANDING hockey team, but not for nothing...
A Brockport player, Nick Smyth, did it 9 years ago. :-)

      (What can i say? I'm a homer.)

Still, it wasn't in a game recognized by the NCAA since it was an exhibition. Still great, but not as great at Neil who did it in a real game.

I guess I'll throw a bone for my team.

F Jordan Chong, CSS: 2-1-3, one of which was a shorty and both were game winners over #12 UWS.

Are we going to have to scrap the poll and give the POTW to Chong? I find it hard to believe that, given the games that have occurred this week, none of you can think of anybody to nominate...

            Nominations are due at Noon!

If it's not too late I'll toss in Brennan Poderzay with a 29 save shutout v. #12 UWS.

While I am shocked to see no goalies nominated before the deadline, I'm going to have to say this was too late. We've established an exception for a token defenseman when none have "wowed" us in the stats department (although it has yet to be use), but I don't think the same can apply for goalies. Goalies have their own stats that they can excel in and "wow" us with.

Past the 12 noon deadline, no nomination. Sorry! And yes, I would even say the same thing about a Plattsburgh Goalie, I'm not being biased here.

I nominate Plattsburgh's Bryan Hince for Player err..Employee of the Week.

His sparkling 0.00 GGA and 1.000 save percentage of flipping burgers at McDonald's was impressive!
