Collegehockeystats.net lists 14 1st years on the Manhattanville roster. There were 16 players named on the recruits list at Beyond the Dashers, but Jessica Frump, a Syracuse transfer, has come in as a sophmore and the Quinnipiac transfer, Swede Anny Kallum is not rostered. Emy Cote, a goalie and Lauren Nutkevitch, a D, both played for Canadian AA Dawson College last year and are both listed a freshmen.
While last season was an off year for the Valiants, they were just a goal or two from capturing the ECAC-East auto bid. I think they will be back in the DIII top ten this season.

I am thinking you may see PSU move up out of the basement a little bit with a new coach and all.....we will see....call me crazy but I am a big fan of the underdogs.

          Go Panthers!!!!!

So, is this a key early season matchup with Holy Cross? It is practically on the way home, so I think I will run on down to the Ice Casino.

When I saw her violently grab one of her top players friday night I thought time to check out other schools. Hopefully a suspension is in order.
Two quick thoughts (maybe 3 or 4):

                1) While physical violence is never good, I'd rather work with a coach that gave some honest feedback rather than just leading a player along.
                2) Pick the school for the academics and suitable environment, not only the hockey program.
                3) Go to Rutland and visit Castleton. If your daughter is interested in Business, look at Nichols.
                4) PSU is a great school and I think that the new coach and the new rink will only help the future of this program.

Semester Break Report... Here are the standings so far this year:

                    Holy Cross 7-0-1 15
                    Norwich 7-1-1 15
                    Salve Regina 6-1-1 13
                    St. Anselm 6-2-1 13

                    Manhattanville 6-1-0 12
                    Mass.-Boston 4-4-0 8
                    New England College 4-4-0 8
                    Castleton 3-5-1 7

                    Southern Maine 2-6-0 4
                    Nichols 1-6-1 3
                    St. Michael's 1-9-0 2
                    Plymouth State 0-8-0 0

In past years I've called this the league of the "haves" and "have nots" but this year we are definitely seeing some shuffling of the traditional standings. It's great to see Salve and Norwich firmly entrenched in the top third. Two newcomers to the middle ground include Manhattanville and Castleton. (My pick for Coach of the Year continues to be Bethany Torrice.) New to the bottom dwellers is Southern Maine. Last year USM ran hot and cold with a loss to MIT followed by a win against MVille. This year they just seem to be cold.

Also, where is the reporting for this season? The last Derek Dunning article was 12/10. Do we only get one "This Week in D-III Women's Hockey" a month? The ECAC East web site has finally updated the players of the week page but it seemed to take them half a season to realize that it wasn't still 08/09.

Let's look forward to a spirited second half!

In december yes. USCHO pretty much takes a b reak like everyone else does. I'm sure he'll be back that first week in January

I was at the Castleton-Manhattanville game last evening; not pretty. The refs called a lot of fluffy stuff and things got ugly in the 3rd period. Hard to understand Manhattanville skating the kid who got her second misconduct that late in a game they were leading 8-1??? Does anyone know if the ECAC-East will sanction the player (or coach) in a case like this?

Congrats to Mville regular season conference champs. Not bad work with 10-11 freshman in the line up. Should be an interesting playoffs with any number of teams that could win. Unlike the old ECAC East I see three real contenders(Mville,Norwich,UMB) and two teams that nobody wants to play(NEC and USM)

It would be some conference tourney if Holy Cross and St.A's were able to play. It's to bad the NCAA can't do something about that.
