I must admit, I am quite surprised at who is number one given the goalie situation. That said, the scattering of votes is no shock at all.

Re: 2009-2010 USCHO Pre Season poll.

Obviously 9 of the voters placed their #1 votes based on tradition. It'll be interesting to see how long Neumann stays up near the top.

Also, It's interesting to note the large number of teams with First-Place votes. I suppose this is a reflection of the increased parity in D-III hockey. Once again the NCHA is strong, with 4 of 7 in the rankings and 6 of 7 receiving votes.

Is it normal for the preseason poll to essentially be a re-ordering of the last poll of the previous season? I'm sorry if I don't recall, but who is the one team to fall out of the poll to make room for Norwich?

Adrian starts the season at #6, which seemed to be as high as it could get last year, but finally receives a First-Place vote. This season will be the telling season for Adrian. Finally having a clear path to the title, this will be their "Put up or shut up" year. Can't wait for January 8th!

Well, the poll is here, and one weekend of hockey is in the books. It's offically hockey season... THANK HEAVENS!

I'm with you. 3 untested freshman Plattsburgh goalies, 13 freshman on the team! It is hard to consider this team #1, even in this meaningless preseason poll..

I'm surprised Oswego got a 1st place vote. Also surprised Neumann got 4 more than Plattsburgh and still ended up 2nd. But I'm sure nearly every voter had the Cards in the top 3, whereas Neumann may not have cracked the top 5 in all of them.

Looks close to a copy/paste job from last season's final poll, save for sliding Neumann into 1st.

Fwiw, I had Manhattanville #1 but based on the numbers can tell my ballot was not used.

The Gusties return basically their entire offense. If they can find good goaltending and defense again they'll be a dangerous team again. Martinson might be the best player in the country. He was the best player I saw last year and I saw 20-25 or so teams. His numbers certainly reflect it.

Re: 2009-2010 USCHO Pre Season poll.

I do have a vote and it went like this...

                1 Manhattanville
                2 Plattsburgh
                3 St. Norbert
                4 Adrian
                5 Norwich
                6 Gustavus Adolphus
                7 Wis-Stout
                8 Neumann
                9 Wis-Superior
                10 Middlebury
                11 Elmira
                12 Amherst
                13 Curry
                14 Mass-Dartmouth
                15 Hamline

Manhattanville is scary. They return a lot from a squad that lost just 4 games last year. They, like SNC, are going to be rising up the national poll this year. Plattsburgh gets the #2 slot based on my theory that everybody else on the ice is so good it doesn't matter who's in net.

NUProf, any comments? Stout and Superior lost quite a bit, but I'm not willing to rule them out. Same as Neumann, so lumping them all together seems to make sense to me.

Curry and UMD are going to roll their respective leagues, if they can prove it in non-conference, I don't think either is a stretch as a top-15 team. Last chance, Hamline.

                MIA: Hobart, Oswego, Scholastica

Hobart without Longo intimidates me not at all. Oswego without their top 3 lines intimidates me not at all. CSS was ranked 6th in the NCHA by those coaches, I'm willing to think they have some idea what they're talking about.

Didn't realize having seen a team play the year before was a requirement to rank them in a specific spot the following year when they have new players. I'll keep that in mind. Also see above. Webb had them in the same spot with the same level of having seen them (pretty sure I caught at least one webcast of them last year, but I assume in Derek-land that's meaningless?)

Second, If we could take it away, we would
If that were true, they wouldn't keep hiring me to do different jobs, would they?

I understand how this concept might confuse you, as I'm actually employed in the field I was trained in. Which is why I'm not going to be able to respond to your prattling all season long. Are you really going to keep this up until March, because it's not even the end of October and it's old. Any comments on the actual poll or something hockey related, or are you going to keep flinging mud and seeing if any sticks?

The "Did you ever see ________ play" question is about as awesome as the "Well have you every played hockey before" question as a means to cup check credentials around here.

I'm doubting that all the coaches have seen all these teams play and we sure as hell know some of them mail it in on the poll rankings since they're f-cking stupid.

Salem State thanks you for the bulletin board material.
