Re: Assabet U19/U16 Tournament
I have a couple of years of experience with this tournament, and the flow was pretty much the same each year. There was significant college coaching presence; roughly 30 schools represented, most there on Friday night, many there Saturday afternoon, then only a few on Saturday night and maybe just a couple if any on Sunday morning/afternoon.
In the past couple of years, NAHA, Assabet and the Chicago Mission have had the more dominant teams. As with all tournaments, there seem to be a couple of teams for whom the tournament is simply "a good experience".
From memory, I recall seeing assistants or head coaches from the following schools:
Harvard, Yale, Brown, BC, BU, Northeastern, Providence, UConn, Maine, UNH, UVM, Syracuse, Dartmouth, Union, Oswego St., Amherst, Holy Cross, Bowdoin, Colby, St. Anselms, UMass-Boston, Colby, Norwich, Salve, St. Michaels, Middlebury, and Elmira.
That's pretty much from memory, and so it is likely that other schools were also represented.
The tournament format left something to be desired, with one team from each three team division advancing to a semi-final, but being placed after playing three different teams. Two years ago, the Mission and Assabet 16 were in the same division, and both were 3-0, but Assabet 16 advanced by being able to run up a big score in their final game, and clinched based on goal differential. Chicago was not pleased, although they came back last year and beat AV in the semi-final, so I guess it's all good!Toe Blake On goalies: "You get four goals off them, or five, but the goal you've got to have to win, somehow the great ones don't let you get it.”

AV 16 has always been strong in years past. Only teams in this tourney that I've not seen yet are AV16 and TI.

Re: Assabet U19/U16 Tournament
Watched AV19 roll fairly easily over Ottawa tonight. Word around the rink is that this was the sharpest effort by AV19 so far this season.
Seemed like the college scouting presence was down a bit from previous years. Perhaps because so many local teams are on the road this weekend? Perhaps it will be better for the morning games.Toe Blake On goalies: "You get four goals off them, or five, but the goal you've got to have to win, somehow the great ones don't let you get it.”
