To 5 hole- Sorry I'm new to this so I apologize for any shortcomings in my post.
I don't disagree with you entirely on Foam being a great defender however if you look at the stats over the last two years he was very high in plus/minus in year 1 and led the entire conference in year 2. Some of that may be luck but over the long haul I think this stat does reflect a players value (think Nik Lidstrom). If he was a plus playing at even strength even though it may not have been against the best offensive players then I have to believe given his offensive stats in Junior that he would be even better when the opposition is short handed.
For the record the power play connected at a 16% last year (very poor) and I believe is at 0% this year.
Sometimes people's perceptions get in the way of the facts.
One thing I do know is if this team doesn't start staying out of the penalty box (and yes the freshmen are part of that) then this is going to be a long season not just because it puts the opposition at an advantage but it demoralizes the players and creates tension due to lack of ice time for the majority of the players.
I don't think this was the most cohesive group last year and think they may be heading down a slippery slope again if it keeps up.
I'll stand by my comments on Foam and the freshmen playing ahead of him ... put it this way: I was really hoping that these freshmen would prove good enough to get playing time early and win jobs. Could not be happier.

PP - yes, it was not good last year and thus far this year is (statistically) worse. Like I said, I'll give it some time. We have a lot of freshmen and sophs playing right now and some upperclassmen not producing yet.

The problem I have with your comment on penalties is that you seem to be basing it on seeing one game, that against the #4 team in the country played on the road in a fairly intimidating venue. Yes, we took 11 penalties for 30 minutes (included a 10-minute misconduct). The previous three games, Niagara had a total of just 9 penalties for 18 minutes. I don't think your big argument holds water. Yes, it can be pretty tough for a frosh-soph laden team in a situation like that. But I think this team came away from that game with a renewed sense of confidence and belief in itself, despite the close loss. Hey, we weren't playing Northern!

Bemidji has landed a recruit for the future. 16 year old Zack Franko out of Winnipeg. He was a second round draft pick of the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL, but has elected to go the college route. Kelowa was very high on him after their prospect camp.

Then you throw Wisconsin on top of everything (does it become a case of UAH or UW? Or UAH and UW with no BG?), well, you can see how sticky a situation it probably was for a while...

I don't see Wisconsin moving the CCHA.

Neither do I, but I was just pointing out that, for at least a while this past summer, you can see how "the CCHA" could have had a lot of things going on (the Wisco, 'we're taking our puck and leaving because of the Big 10,' or even the CCHA thing, the BG folding thing and the UNO leaving thing) so that UAH stopped being a slam-dunk.
