I'll take a look, I may have some other pins. If I find something, I'll let you know.

On a bit of an interesting note...

Due to the Alaska Aces cancer benefit games tomorrow and Thursday (10/7 and 10/8) will result in a pinkish tinge to the ice. Unless your at the games, this probably wouldn't ever be noticed without seeing pictures or video from the games, but it always results in a few questions from out of towners, and even a few locals. While it won't be quite as...vibrant for the classic, a pink hue always remains.

That totally rocks. I hope that some of the players pick up on that and use some pink tape on their sticks, too. Be a man, support all women!!!

I remember someone saying that last year, but I didn't see any pink residue on the ice. Too bad that there are two week day Aces games immediately before UAA opens their season, I hope there is still good attendance for the Wolves.

          From ADN:

"According to NCAA, the (UAF) hockey team used ineligible players in every game played from the 2007-08 season to the 2010-11 season. Over that span, the wins and ties will all become losses. 4 wins and 2 ties came against rival UAA".

          UAF is 56-86-12 vs. UAA.

The Aces have been doing doing the promotion for 2 or 3 years I think and have made over $250,000 for the cancer research. The team gets pink jerseys made that are auctioned off as well. Its a great promotion and it would be great to see other teams catch on.

My memory may be a little off perhaps. I've had to be in the Sully the day after the Aces game before and that might have been what I was thinking about.

You can usually see a tint of it in the corners but not all over the ice.

Any advice on things to do and places to eat for out-of-towners?

Suze, I've already seen your recommendations in the Extras thread. Thanks.

                    Re: Kendall Classic, Michigan,Mercyhurst,UA_, Uaa

Well I posted my predictions on the Nooks season thread, and didn't get much discussion. So I'll repost it here, to see what people think.

Quick stab at predictions for the upcoming weekend in A-town.

                    Oct. 9
                    Michigan vs. Alaska Fairbanks
I'm going with Michigan 4-1. I love the nooks, but think UMich is going to be too big, too fast, and to skilled for us. If anything maybe a closer score, but I don't think we will pull this off. I'm hoping for a different outcome than what my prediction is.

                    Mercyhurst vs. UAA
I'm going with UAA 5-2 in this one. The Lakers played the Seawolves tough at the CC last year (6-4), but this game is at the Sully, and well the Lakers aren't going to win. I will say that I think the game will be close until about the half way point, at which time UAA will step on the accelerator. They will score a special team goal, and open it up.

                    Oct. 10
                    Mercyhurst vs. Alaska Fairbanks
I'm going with the Nooks 4-1. This game will cap off another tough trip to the Last Frontier for the Lakers. After this game, I'm guessing they'll think twice, before making the long trip north again. The Lakers struggled with our speed last year, and we took it to them pretty good (5-0). Unless they added a few new speedy players, they again will struggle with our speed.

                    Michigan vs. UAA
This one is an interesting matchup in my opinion. I'm going with UMICH 3-2. I think the Seawolves can bang with the Wolverines. Actually they are probably the only team in the tourney that can. I also think the Seawolves will play tough in front of their home crowd. The only difference in this game is going to be UMich's speed and skill. UMich is lightening fast, and can bury the puck with their eyes closed. The Seawolves are going to need outstanding goal tending, and if they get it, the score will be tight.
All that was left, then, was for the Nanooks to celebrate with their fans. And for the Seawolves to get one last earful of the rowdies from Fairbanks.

"I've got a lot of expletives I'd like to use,'' Fournier said, slumped in his locker room stall. "It's very embarrassing when you're playing on your home ice and they have more fans and they're louder.

"We might as well have played the games in Fairbanks.''

Also we all know who the big names are for each team, but anyone excited about a particular freshman on your squad? I think overall our frosh class is a good class, but I've really been impressed with #7 Nik Yaremchuk. Not a huge guy, but so far he seems to be fast, skilled, and heady (seemingly a great fit for the college game). So who else do you recommend I keep an eye out for?

Todays ADN has an article about UAA's two European freshmen. I really liked what I saw from Naslund, who scored two goals last weekend. All of the freshmen showed some good things last Friday night, and I'm sure they will only get better.

I believe so, but we are boosters and get free parking so I can't be positive about that.

Nice article in todays ADN about Bryce and Jonnie O.

Sad to see that the Aces exhibition game made the front page, while UAA's was hidden in the sports section.
