Re: Number of NHL Draft picks on your team

        What's your team, BTW?

MSU-EL has 6 ... but IMHO this question only results in meaningful answers if you weight the numbers.

Because theoretically a 3rd rounder has far more potential than a 6th rounder.

        So what about 1st round = 7 points, 2nd round = 6 points, ... , 7th round = 1 point?

        MSU-EL: 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 1 = 26 "draft points"

        -----------------
Add: Not all that familiar with other league sites, but CCHA.com has rosters with NHL team affiliations next to player names. Also, school athletics website has bio's with NHL draft pick info.

Cornell has 6, with another in the pipeline.

          7+2+1+1+1+1 = 13 draft points.

            Using this for BU:

            7+2+5+6+1+3+2+4+6+4+6+5+1+3=
            55 draft points

                    15 for UND.

                    http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/?blog=54362

UND will not have a first-round draft pick on the team this season. The last time that happened was 1999-00, also UND's last national title. In fact, the only first-round pick to win a national title at UND was James Patrick in 1982.
No first round picks at UND! Hurray the curse has been lifted!
a recent trend of NHL teams going off the board to get a Sioux recruit...guys who were unranked by Central Scouting when they committed to UND but ended up going in the draft
Good to see NHL teams have faith in the coaching.
UND's two best players last year were Ryan Duncan and Chay Genoway -- both undrafted players. In fact, three of UND's top four scorers last season were undrafted free agents.

20 for Minnesota, too lazy at the moment to figure out points.

                          For DU 13 players = 47 pts

                          1st Round
                          - Colborne (BOS) = 7 pts

                          2nd Round
                          - Wrenn (SJS), Shore (FLA), Wiercioch (OTT) = 18 pts

                          3rd Round
                          - Gifford (PIT) = 5 pts

4th Round - Donovan (NYI), Rakhshani (NYI) = 8 pts

                          5th Round - Lee (FLA) = 3 pts

                          6th Round
                          - Ruegsegger (TOR) = 2 pts

                          7th Round
                          - Glasser (EDM), Martin (ATL), Cheverie (FLA), Phillips (CHI) = 4 pts

Obviously, high draft choices (Turris, Kessel) are great players, but leave school early and obviously don't contribute as much as guys who stick around for four years.

You might have a pretty good formula if you multiply the draft choice points by the year in school. Say a 5th Round Junior is worth (3 pts X 3 years = 9 pts). A first round Freshman is worth 7 pts (7 X 1 year).

Agreed - that shows the true a truer quality of a hockey program. It's less impressive to me to just have an NHL factory.
