Using each traditional hockey jersey number* only once, make your team's all-time best roster.

To be considered the player must have worn the jersey number *at your school* for a full season. (UND could not have Ed Belfour in "20" as he only wore that in the NHL.)

A quick try at North Dakota (feel free to continue):

* Traditional: Numbers 1-35. I know some teams have guys wearing 54 and other such things, but let's be serious and leave those numbers to linebackers for now.

There is room for discussion. 9 Tim Harrer, 6 Bill Baker...see 76-77 roster for that matter for more options. Broten wore 14 one year too, cause some hack named Rob McClanahan wore 7 that year. I'd consider Aaron Broten over Martin too (I'm not sure Neal was better than him the year he won the Hobey.) 8 Corey Millen. 19 DeMarchi? And what numbers were Mariucci and Mayasich?

Yeah, well it was Will or Tim Camitta. Same job, only one was here for four years. Easy choice.

Yeah, I knew that I'd forget a few and those are some great players that deserve consideration. Aaron was perhaps better the year Neal won the Hobey but they weren't up against each other. :) I did my list more for fun and for the memories than anything and thought it would be good to get some back and forth going on the concept. :)

I'd go with Brian Robins as 5, Pat Hahn as 6, Jim Pope as 11, Dale Watson as 16, Marty Dallman as 23 since I do agree that MacDonald deserves 13, Marc Cavosie as 27, Steve Duncan as 29, and Don Cutts as 30 which he wore as a soph since 0 isn't allowed by the ground rules. I also would take Nate Marsters as 18, but they are impossible to compare.

I went back and forth between Dallman as 23 but went with Pickett since I limited it to primary numbers - which also eliminated Cutts and Cavosie. There really haven't been that many stellar 23s. I had Duncan further down the list, and hedged on Marsters and Knightley too.

EDIT: I almost broke the rules and added Brad Farynuk and Brad Tapper. :D

I would probably pick Rick Smith as 23, for the playoff victory in 1974 over UHN if nothing else. 29 is a real washout, so I would also go to Spadafore on longevity.

EDIT: I almost broke the rules and added Brad Farynuk and Brad Tapper. :D What about Christian Morissette at 36. :D

BTW, I am hoping that 16 and 30 change in a few years, perhaps even after this year. :)
