Well got my wish starting goalies were # 29 Speery & # 31 Macdonald.

Kind of a nervous first period as special teams were dominate again. Canadians took penalties early and often with a total of 6 for the period while the US managed 3.

Canada leads 1 -0 after 1 on a weak US clearing attemp picked off by # 16 Rattray and her point shot was deflected by # 6 Casandra Poudrier at the tail end of a Canadian power play. Time of the goal12;46.

Both teams seem tight as the SOG would indicate: USA - 7, Canada - 6. Canada weather a late period 5 on 3 when they were down two for close to a minute and a half.

Two things - Check your box scores as they are having some audio and scoreboard difficulties. SOG not reported for the 2nd period and somehow Rigsby is in net. Not sure if they switched goales due to injury or there was a mixup in original atarting lineup announcments but Rigsby played the entire 2nd.

Total SOG: USA - 28, Canada - 25

IMHO 3 stars: 1st - # 31 Carmen Macdonald, 2nd - #20 Kendal Coyne, 3rd - # 8 Jessica Campbell.

IMHO Game notes: Untimley penalties by the US squad set the tone for this game. SOG indicated that it was somewhat closer than the score would indicate.

3rd game of the series goes tomorrow at 2:30pm MST live from the Pengrowth Olympic Saddledome.

Should be a dandy...

earlier post should have read US pulls goalie with 47 sec left in the "2nd". It was worth noting though cause it was a gutsy call by the US coaching staff, Kudo's... down 3-0, faceoff in the Canadian end and 47 clicks left... a goal there could have made the difference in this game...and they came close.

Found out what happened last night in the goalie mix up...they have Sperry listed as 29 in the program and for some reason she was wearing Rigsby"s jersey last night #30...so the late breaking news is Sperry played 60 minutes last night. My mistake.

Anyway, Rigsby and Howe are playing this afternoon.

Canada takes the first three penalties of the game which allows the US to capitalize on a 5 on 3 advantage @9;32 of the first to lead 1 - 0 after 1.
12 Pelkey bangs in a pass in the slot from 10 Ammerman who took a beauty cross ice pass from Mangene who originated the play.

Penalties: USA - 1, Canada - 4
SOG: USA - 14, Canada - 5

The Canucks were guilty of some really sloppy play in the first...turnovers, giveaways, lost battles etc.

Canada ties the game at ones on the PP @ 9:29 of the second. A low point shot off the stick of 26 Erin Ambrose found the five hole of the butterflying Rigsby, assisted by 15 Melodie Daoust. There was no more scoring in the second.

Canada switched goalies at the 13:15 mark of the second for no other apparent reason than to get Macdonald some more work.

Penalties: USA - 2, Canada - 0
SOG: USA -7, Canada - 7 (US - 21, Canada - 12)

Good end to end action but this game for some reason, lacks the intensity of the two previous games. Maybe they are getting tired...

Canada wins this one ugly beating the US 3-1 to take the series 2 games to one.

Canada scored it's second and game winning goal on the PP when another low burner from the high slot off the stick of 11 Christine Bestland deflects off a leg in front and finds the back of the net. Time of the goal was 3:07 of the third and 8 Jessica Campbell, 16 Jamie Lee Rattray were given the assists.

The US got their goalie out at 18:33 and at 18:54 8 Jessica Campbell off a short feed from Bestland feathered a shot from the blueline for the Empty Net Goal to secure the win for the Canadians.

Penalties: None
SOG: USA - 7, Canada - 10 ( USA 28, Canada 22)

IMHO 3 Stars should go to USA players 18 Alexandra Carpenter & 26 Haley Skarupa and Canadian 26 Erin Ambrose. In no particular order. These three players are all 94 birth years and honestly one could not tell the difference between them and anyone else in the field.

IMHO Game Note: I am not totally convinced the best team won here today...it was one of those games where you outshoot and to some extent outplay your opponent...but still lose the game...Thats Hockey.

Thanks for the excellent reports. Did you take in the big tilt between the big boys later in the evening at the SaddleDome as well ?.

As a matter of fact I did. The saddledome was standing room only as I doubt one would ever see that much talent on the ice at one time.

Sure wouldn't want to be in charge of making the cuts on that team....

Although 3 were listed they were only going to take 2 to the games so I guess the 3rd was cut.
