Neither the box score on collegehockeystats.net (http://collegehockeystats.net/0910/boxes/wbc_har1.f02) nor the one on Harvard's own site (http://www.gocrimson.com/sports/wice/2009-10/files/wh100202.htm) shows a Major penalty. No minor on Green either. Instead, both have a 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct. If it was in fact a spear, it is strange that it wasn't called that way.
No one received a major in the game. I remember hearing that Green got 10+game, but had no idea why.

Also, why in the world did we get a penalty after that one Harvard goal that was announced only as a "bench minor"?

My guess is the misconduct was a "mouth-off" but I wasn't there.

It was against the coach - she was leaning over the boards, pointing at the ref who didn't call the hand pass or kicking or whatever happend a few seconds before that, and shouting at the referee that the 3rd goal was either "his fault" or "his goal" - couldn't quite tell from where I was sitting, but that's pretty close to it. I think the ref was trying to ignore her, but when she kept repeating it and wouldn't stop, he turned, pointed at her, and pointed to the penalty box.

Also, vote for Allie and Ben Smith to be in the Frozen Four skills competition:

That is as I saw it too. It looked to me (from directly across the rink) that a Harvard player did complete a hand pass in the neutral zone, right smack in front of the BC bench. Coach King, and to an extent, Coach Kennedy, protested vehemently. It wasn't hard to read her lips and understand the gesture she was making of a hand pass. In the ensuing play, Harvard scored, and the protest was renewed. It was at this point that the bench minor was called.

Should the protest have stopped before it escalated to a penalty and the resultant goal? Probably. Did she have a valid complaint? Certainly from what I saw, and at that point, it was a one goal game and the second goal may never have happened had the play been stopped for the infraction.

I've seen many occasions where that kind of protest results in the officials paying a little closer attention to details that, when missed, have the potential to change the flow of the game, so you can't fault her for standing up for her team in that situation, but maybe next time she knows when she's made her point before provoking the one with the whistle.

Okay, Skate 79, represented in this response to your childish outburst are FANS from BC, Providence, Northeastern, Minny, your beloved Harvard, and now UNH, all of whom acknowledge the supremacy of Harvard over BC, a team that has struggled all season, but have enough respect for these athletes to admit defeat with grace. Do you really think it was necessary to rub their faces in it? Do you think they didn't notice the score? Or maybe on the drive back across town they forget they lost. And what did Union ever do to merit inclusion in your negative diatribe? Good job there, insulting two teams with one jab. I'm sure Dartmouth is releived to be out of your line of sight now.

I can't make sense of why you even bother to expose yourself to the lowly masses by attending a game. I'd have a hard time believing you ever played a sport, because one of the most important aspects of being a competitor is humility, of which you display none.

I'm very happy that you went home feeling so good about yourself and the almighty Crimson (no slight to them intended) after the game, and I apologize for all of the mortals you had to endure while at Bright last night. I can just picture you squashing bugs all the way to your front door.

THIS!

This is a big weekend for BC and Hockey East. Thought the BC season boiled down to the BeanPot and attempting to secure that 6th place HE slot to make it to the playoffs. We all saw what happened on Tuesday in the BeanPot, so back to HE. After more team illness and injury, the team limps into Storrs in hope of getting an elusive HE point. The season has boiled down to securing the 6th spot. Maine is 6 points behind BC, but has one game in hand and plays Vermont later today. BC and Maine also tangle for two games next week. With the season winding down and the toughness in schedule for both BC and Maine, looks like the 6th spot will be decided by end of next weekend. Althought VT has been playing exceptionally well recently, I think they are just too far out of the mix at this time. Making the top 6 for BC would be a small victory, yet a bright spot in what has been a discouraging season. Getting 1 point (man I wish they did not give that one point away in Providence a few weeks back) will go a long way to getting that small victory. Go Eagles.

We have to worry about the Maine series now. Didn't see that coming.

With Maine's loss to Vermonth yesterday, Vermont moves into the 7th slot, but needs to play 2 against both Providence and UNH. They will need to win 3 out of the 4 in order to move ahead of BC (assuming BC get's 0 points in its last 4 games. Maine needs to sweep BC and then win 1 out of 2 against BU in order to catch BC (again assuming BC get's 0 point in its last 4 games). Not totally sure of all the tie breaker rules, so I'll leave that to the much more astute posters. The Maine loss to VT yesterday really hurt Maine's chances.

I give BC a little credit for hanging in there with UCONN. Seems like UCONN controlled the play, but BC did get at least one goal in the 3rd and did not collapse as in other recent games. Not much rest for the weary as the BeanPot vs BU on Tuesday before heading to Maine for next weekends series.

Go Eagles.

I'm weirdly excited for this BU game. I'm sure the team's been under a lot of pressure lately, so maybe playing an essentially meaningless game will take some of the pressure off and allow them to rediscover their game. Who knows, maybe they can pick up a nice W and have some momentum and confidence going into the Maine series.

With it looking increasingly possible that the HEAs will be at Providence instead of the UNH house of horrors, if we can get into the tournament we'll have a puncher's chance of winning some games.

Obviously, the clock is ticking.

Playing the meaningless game on Tuesday could give Kinger a few opportunities to experiment with some different things and see if any of them work. If some do, then you guys could have a lot of momentum as I think you have a good chance of beating Maine. I really don't think your #6 spot is in jeopardy but it'd be nice to be playing good hockey by the time you get there. Anything can happen in one game.

We're going to be the 6 seed and somehow UNH will be the 3 seed and I will punch someone in the face.

BC looks pretty certain to snag the 6 spot barring a meltdown in Maine this weekend.

Now the key for us is hoping UNH doesn't finish 3rd. :o
