I'd by lying if I said I was excited about this class.

me too. This is where landing Walters would have helped a ton.

Also, was UW looking at Reilly Smith at all? he's put up **** good numbers at Miami.

the forwards look really lackluster but who knows. maybe there's 2 Bombach-types and 2 Mersch-types there w/some coaching

Daly may be a replacement for Hesketh per Baggot (http://host.madison.com/sports/blog/article_bc279090-1d10-11e0-b817-001cc4c03286.html)

Yeah starting to think Wisconsin might drop Hesketh, almost like a Crandall situation where he didn't perform well in USHL and school dropped him. Just my thought.

Edit: Thanks to Chuck seems like Hesketh no longer coming to Badgers.

Yeah, Hesketh is out. Started hearing his name in rumors shortly after his USHL rights were traded last week. A lot of people had some very not nice things to say about the kid. I'll leave it at that.

Kind of like an ex-Gopher recruit at UNO

Possible. Although I'm not sure Eaves would have discarded him strictly based on that. I think the ACT deal was the tipping point. Obviously if he can't get in, he can't play.

Why is he available?

We had an offer to him, most likely a full ride but it was to come in for this season, 2010. Miami offered him the same for 2009 and he decided to take it. All things equal, we land the kid but we just didn't have room on a STACKED roster last year. Remember, Mark Zengerle and Tyler Barnes both could have been brought in last season, we just didn't have the room/$.

Let's just say Schultz and Gardiner leave for NHL, who would take the point on the power play an existing Badger or a recruit for 2011.

Frankie Simonelli or John Ramage.

Yikes.

Yikes.

Alright Mr. Know-it-all, then name a better option. Next year's team is going to be very young on the blue line and in the short term will be a real step back in terms of developed talent on the ice (assuming the Ducks' prospects leave). Frankie has looked decent on the PP the last two weekends, and considering the steps he's made already this season, I could see him being ready for that next season. Sure it might not be ideal, but unless McBain is cloned and given a scholarship, you work w/ what you got.

Frankie Simonelli or John Ramage.

You could also use 1st Star at the point as well on the pp. The only downside is he's so awesome on the pp where he is now.

My post wasn't to make fun of your choices, but to simply point out that if that's the best we can trot out to quarterback our powerplay, we're in big trouble.

Havn't read up much but would Daly be good on PP. I know he will he a true freshman but I know he can put up points.

I doubt it. Daly will be fighting to make the lineup every night even if Gards and Schultz go pro.

Ramage-Simonelli
Springer-McCabe
Faust-Drake/Little?
Daly-

Edit: This is the recruiting thread. Next years PP is probably a topic for the regular thread.

The Badgers ARE in trouble on the blue line next season (unless Schultz returns), are there any transfers available to help out...

Funny thing, by 2012/13 I think the blue line will again be in good shape especially if Eaves/Butters land a few nice recruits for the 2012 class. I know Tim Davison is 2012 or 2013, but I want to see how he does in juniors next year. I've see him play, he is a talented kid, but he is small and it could take him 2 years of juniors to be ready for WCHA hockey.

Simonelli and Faust will have a year under their belts and they both look pretty solid. Obviously they don't have a Brendan Smith type now but soon enough. if Mccabe/Daly can play like Simonelli and Faust that will help immensely, if they don't then for sure UW will be in trouble. Springer I'm not sold on, Drake we haven't seen (maybe he can be a C. Johnson type?), Little has experience....

I really hope Ramage comes back and Schultz but have no idea what the odds are. Gardiner I'd suspect would be gone?

My best guess?

Gardiner 90% gone.
Schutlz 67% gone.
Ramage 15% gone.

Waupaca forward Brad Navin, who is committed to the Badgers, hurt his knee Thursday night vs. Tomahawk and did not play for Waupaca against Waupun last night. Sounds like he'll be evaluated by a doctor this week.
