Haven't seen the weekend results, and as luck would have it, I got paged out to work.

Here is some info on the Wednesday’s game between the U.S. Junior National team and the Russian Under-20 squad at the Olympic Center's USA Rink.

Twenty-seven penalties were doled out during the game, with 15 going to the United States.

...said U.S. head coach Dean Blais. "Russia played hard and they were disciplined tonight. The difference in this game was we got four power-play goals and didn't give up anything."

"We've got 15 pretty good hockey players coming out of here," Blais said. "We aren't as deep as Canada, but we expect to right in there."

      Friday, 8/14's Results:

Russia Defeats Team USA, 6-4 at Eval Camp

      Article here.

It was Team USA’s first loss to Russia at the camp.

Derek Stepan (Hastings, Minn.) logged two assists and Team USA’s power play connected on three out of 10 chances, but was unable to take advantage of multiple five-on-three opportunities.

“The effort was there tonight, and I think we outshot them two-to one,” said Dean Blais, head coach of the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team. “But you can’t give up two or three soft goals and expect to win. With one game left against the Russians tomorrow night, we’ll need to respond.”

Trifinov stopped 29 shots in the win, while Maxwell made 11 saves in the game.

I'm sitting at home tonight watching "Miracle" in honor of this.

Not in any way as awesome ... just so much cheaper.

I work at a Subway along I-87, and I made a sub for one member of the Russian Team last night. Tall, skinny, blonde fellow and a short, fat translator. The player was wearing a shirt with national emblem of Russia, so I asked if they were with the hockey team and coming from Lake Placid. They left me a tip just for knowing that

You 100% sure the short, fat guy wasn't the Russian player? Did you put extra hot peppers on his sub? Did he ask for American cheese?

Many guys often eat Subway before a road trip, however I have modified my tastes to Jimmy Johns for the following reason. Every grubway in the world has a distinct stench to it. If you eat grubway this stench lays on your clothing and makes you smell.

And why they had to create an "open air" booth for him at the Dunn Co.

Beats me. I have to deal with it every day. If you think it sticks to your clothes after 5 minutes, try being there for 8 hours! And worse, we're also a gas station... try imagining the Subway stench with gasoline mixed in

Actually, the fat guy didn't get a sub. Oh, and it was swiss cheese.

Final followups, stats, video, etc now posted here.

The 2009 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp is packed with teenagers from traditional hockey hotbeds. Of the 43 camp invitees, 17 hailed from either Michigan or Minnesota.

As hockey continues to spread in popularity across the United States, however, elite players are emerging on USA Hockey’s radar from areas of the country not known for their hockey devotion.
