It's because of Chamberlain that the NBA instituted the 3-second rule. He would just stand under the basket with no defense able to move him out of the way, take the pass, and drop it in the basket.

Personally, the rule they should have implemented was to allow checking in basketball... :D

Actually, what they did in response to Wilt was widen the free throw lane from 6 feet to 12 feet. The three second rule was inspired by George Mikan of the Lakers, but the width of the lane was only 6 feet The diameter of the free throw circle was 12 feet and the combination of the two formed the shape of an old fashioned key. That's why that area is still called the key (or keyhole). Wilt was tall enough, rugged enough, and had long enough arms that a three foot distance from the basket was no impediment to him being able to stand flat-footed and still score almost at will.

So that's where the "key" comes from. Learn something everyday.

Still should have implemented a checking rule... :D

I agree - would have improved the game a lot.

I notice that you say you have never seen a women's college game? Last year would have been a great opportunity for you to see the Norwich Women.....................they had a better year then the men :)

If you get a chance you should get back here to see them on a weekend when both squads are playing.

I'm not exactly sure whoyou were replying to, as Wormser hasn;t been east much. Maybe it was me you were replying to?
If so, I never said I hadn't seen a women's game. I listed the men's DII and DIII teams I have seen play since this is the men's forum.

I have seen the Norwich Women play, and know the some of the players. Therefore I've also seen their opponents as well, and there have been other teams (UVM for example).

My mistake it was suppossed to be directed to Cetihcra , who said that he has never been to a women's game, but I attached the wrong quote. Sorry about that.

Nope. Norwich has played Quinnipiac only one time ever, and that was in the consolation game of the Holy Cross tournament in January, 1998.

When Quinnipiac was in the ECAC North/South, they were frequent guests at the Essex Skating Center as St. Mike's opponent. Did you ever go there?
