Great pieces about Pirri, Jerry, and Bergin (they gave him quite a bit of attention).

Also from that article:

Union
The Dutchmen have scored at least four goals in each of their last six games at Messa Rink.

Let's end that tonight!
GO RED!

I agree, but Boggie seems knowledgeable.

You better believe it. These guys are REALLY fun to watch. And they play 65 minutes of hockey!

I can't wait for Black Friday weekend, then SLU, and Niagara.

I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up, but is anyone else concerns by the number of penalties that Pirri is taking. He has 20 penalty minutes already and D'Amigo has 10 too. I know they are freshman and probably the best players on the team so I don't expect Appert to bench them for taking too many penalties, but if Pirri keeps taking 2-3 penalties a game it is going to kill us at some point. Any other thoughts on this???

My first thought tonight after Pirri took his 3rd penalty of the night (and 2nd in a row) was how long Appert is going to put up with him taking so many penalties. I could see him possibly getting benched for a game if his penalty troubles lead to a game-winning goal for our opponents.

Re: Penalties

I've seen only the Sacred Heart game in person... one game isn't representative... so, what do people think of the type of penalties our freshmen/our team are taking?

he number of penalties RPI has taken in recent years has been high... we've given away a lot of PP oportunities. It's been a team problem. Can anyone who's seen more of the games comment? While we had no penalties v. AIC and we won the PP/PK matchup w/UC last night, what are people seeing on the ice?

Some players just play with an edge-and you really dont want to mess with that. Brad Tapper was leading the team in penalties his last year-and scored 31 goals. I would take that anytime. Pirri needs to play his game-he will be a top scorer for us. As long as his penalties do not start costing us more than they have-then let him go. He has all the talent in the world and his plusses will far outweigh his minuses:)

I would agree JCraw. Remember a couple years ago, John Ornelas was taking some stupid penalties that resulted in costing us games, so Appert has absolutely no problem with benching him, and he was a captain. I've disagreed with this because the team already pays for the penalty, so why double the dole-out? Provide a legal way for approaching the situation, and make sure the player sticks to it. I'd suggest Herbies, but those don't do anything except make sure the legs feed the wolf.

And DrD, yes the pluses will outweigh the minuses, but if you further develop his game and get rid of the minuses (after all, that's one of the reasons he WANTED to come to RPI), he will be a deadly threat not only in NCAA, but in the NHL as well.

That was a very entertaining game last night though a bitter pill to swallow for a Union fan. I thought a tie would not have been an inequitable result, but RPI to their credit came up big when it counted. The game confirmed my feelings that RPI is much improved and that Union though talented has some major issues with special teams. Congrats on a huge win. I think there will be some more epic battles coming up between these two.

If he continues to put the puck in the net, not only will they accept the penalty minutes, they will play harder to keep the puck out of their own net during his penalties.
Just as an example, see Mark Messier with the Rangers.
Now I am not saying that Pirri is Messier, but he means as much to us as Mark did to NY.
I will take Brandon, penalties and all.

FD08-Trust me, the NHL would rather Pirri show he cant be pushed around-His penalty minutes do not bother them at all. So far his penalties have not been all that bad and certainly not stupid.
