It is a holiday tradition played between Christmas and New Year.
Relegating the tournament to New Year's Day (one of the biggest sports days of the year) and having the championship on the first day back to work most likely insures no attendance and reducing the tournament to an after thought.
What a shame! It also fits in so well with the Vegas tourney timing.

Too bad the Pistons had to stick their nose into things. The NBA could fold for all I care.
The GLI use to be traditionally on that weekend after Christmas. The powers that be have now ruined that.

I might actually go to the GLI again one of these years now that its not at that dumpy ****hole downtown.

I thought the Palace in Auburn Hills, where the pistons played could be converted for ice? Maybe some competition?

The Palace has been used for hockey in the past. The Vipers played their home games there. If by next year they can't get better dates at the Pizza Place I would love to see it move to the Palace. Better drive for me and better neighborhood...

Truth be told the GLI has been in decline for many years. If you were there during the mid 80s when it was standing room only and setting attendance records you would obviously see it's not the same. It's too bad it's not as big as it once was and a real shame if it goes away. However there are just too many other entertainment options during the holidays now. Plus all the people that head to warmer climes for those two weeks. Just not the draw it once was... :(

Moving on from GLI talk. Has anyone heard about a third goalie yet? I know some of the guys were practicing on Monday. Tanner and Hanna were skating with them. Also my source said a goalie was out there that he didn't recognize (but seemed to be playing very well). Any chance we've got the third guy on campus and nobody is announcing it yet?

Time for another radio show. When?

Unless a graduate transfer that was a starter is the choice for the third goalie, it is Kero or Beydoun.
With 2 hours a week practices, how do you get ready for Wisconsin? Coach will know who gives him a better chance to win. I think the choice for the Wisconsin game is the true #1 to start the season.

The Palace property will likely be sold and the Arena demolished once all existing contracts are completed. Palace Sports & Entertainment and Olympia are also being combined.

"Better neighborhood", lol. The Palace is built next to one of the biggest landfills in the area. It's a literal dump surrounded by corporate office parks, in the middle of some of the worst textbook suburban sprawl America has to offer.

Beats empty burned out buildings, drunks and addicts sleeping and panhandling on the sidewalks, and parking decks that smell like giant urinals!

Most likely. The property is worth too much no to redevelop.

The question all summer has been who and when they would finally add a third goalie to the roster. I'm not speculating that he will be the starter. Only wondering if they got him on campus and are just being lazy about making the announcement. So yes, if it's not a transfer then the starter will be Kero or Beydoun. My money will be on Kero.

If there is no experienced transfer goalie coming in, then Kero should get the nod by default. He has earned his shot. However hopefully we don't wait six games if Tech isn't winning or someone better shows up in practice to make a change. Imagine what last season might have been if Redmond got the starting job maybe 2 or 3 games sooner and we won some of those NC games... I would be in favor of putting Kero on a shorter leash, but giving him opportunities at other points in the season.

WWE, you have got to be kidding Olympia Entertainment. This better be a one year blunder.

I hope this is just a one year thing...would be very annoying if it became an annual thing.

I can now confirm at 100% that the GLI dates are in fact January 1 & 2. There will be a WWE event on either December 27 or 28, which will preclude any chance of those dates.

Ooof that sucks! Now how am I supposed to get away from my in-laws?

How big a step do you think Gerrie and Beretta will make this year?
Will Brice become a regular?
Will either of the freshmen, Russell, Misiak, or Reitmeyer take ice away from Blacklock and Anderson.
Does Baltus on the third line balance the lines a bit better by moving Gillies up to the second line.

Let's talk a little hockey....

He put up real strong numbers last season. My question would be, not knowing Minn. High School, is that HS one of the stronger programs in the State, and does it play in a strong conference?

Let's talk a little hockey....

On paper I really like a 1st line of Baltus, Steman, L'Esperance. But I also like how Gould and L' were clicking at the end of last season. So If I go for a balanced look I'd try something like this with the second and third line largely interchangeable.

Gould, Steman, L'
Jackson, Lucchini, Gerrie
Baltus, Smith, Gillies

4th line... Blacklock at center with Beretta, Brice, and Anderson and the freshmen sharing ice time until one or two of them play themselves into the line up full time.

I think Misiak has the best chance of the freshman forwards of cracking the line up. Especially if any of the centers falter or get injured early.

The Palace announced they will close following the Bob Seger concert Sept 26. IMO it was the best arena I've ever watched a hockey game in. Saw Gordie skat in a Vipers game there.

Nice opportunity to get his feet wet in the coaching business. Lawrence coach Mike Szkodzinski will be a good one for him to learn from.
