Surprised this has not been posted yet.

Haley Wickenheiser Announced her retirement. She sure moved the game several steps ahead during her time, part of 5 Olympics and a few records with the National team that may never be broken. Hell-of-a-career.

Most Canadians feel she overstayed her welcome by at least one Olympic games if not two.

I'd prefer to recognize her for her great career on this occasion. She was prominently featured on HNIC national broadcast tonight, the main hockey show each Saturday north of the 49.

She continued to be a strong member of the Canadian team right to the end of her career and "most Canadians" continued to admire her for her hockey skill and hard work. Towards the end of her career she no longer dominated play when she was on the ice, partly because she was no longer at her prime, but also because the game continued to get better and better with each passing year. Overstayed her welcome? Hardly.

Most Americans are glad she has. Maybe we'll get the gold back.

Probably because so many of the best US college players have gone up against her in so many Olympic and other international tournaments. No matter which side of the fence you're on, you have to honor one of the great women hockey players of all time.
