No idea. Not sure how coaches are measured or how their contracts are written. It could be a winning percentage metric, a rank in the conference standings metric, a NCAA qualification metric, etc. And, I would have to believe achieving that metric has a timeframe associated with it.

My point is I find it hard to believe that an AD would say, "Here's your target, and by the way, I'm picking the assistants you're going to use to hit that target."

absolutely, WCHA teams should work to pick up more games vs. the ECAC. given that the ECAC played us every season through the dark years, not buying that 'reputation' is an issue now. travel, no doubt.
That trip to Potsdam and Canton isn't easy.
But every team is trying to limit their travel. Bemidji schedules UND, Northern schedules Wisconsin, etc. There's so much conference travel that every team is looking for close non-conference games. The Alaskas each host their own tournament, there's the North Star Cup, etc. It seems like most teams have a set number of OOC games that occur almost every year against certain opponents.

And not just the travel costs. With the realignment, we have to use our non-con games to get the teams the fans want to see. This year, our non-con schedule was UNO, SCSU, MN, and the Cup. There's no HEA or ECAC team I want to see more than that, and if it means going out there, forget it.

We played Providence in Kato 3 years ago, and the place was empty. Do we dump a game with a Minnesota team so we can bring in a "prestige" team that no one wants to see?

That's a tough question especially when you factor in the loss of walk-up ticket revenue. I guess the question is, if the out of town team helps your NCAA tourney chances, do you want the best shot at an NCAA title or a team that makes some money and packs the rink?

Since the Western reshuffle a lot of teams (not just MN State) are focusing on the bottom line, but maybe not looking at what is best for the team's chances of getting to the tourney and maybe even winning a title. There have been many discussions about what one or two quality wins by ANY WCHA team this season would have meant for getting a single auto-bid vs 2 or maybe 3 WCHA teams into the tourney.

I would hazard a guess that a few more WCHA wins over NCHC teams would have made this point moot.

Yeah, the NCHC killed the WCHA this year. The WCHA had a .500 or better record against everyone BUT the NCHC..... The ASU record at 3-3 is a little disappointing as well.

              -5 against Hockey East (3-2-0)
              -4 against Atlantic Hockey (3-0-1)
              -26 against the NCHC (4-20-2)
              -24 against the Big10 (10-9-5)
              -7 against the ECAC (4-2-1)
              -6 against Arizona State (3-3-0)

The WCHA's Top #2 & #3 teams went 0-9-0 vs the NCHC. My gut instinct say that if BG & Mankato had gone 5-4--0 instead of 0-9-0 vs the NCHC, the WCHA would likely have had at least one more team still playing last weekend. Flying from Bemidji to Bently or Houghton to Holy Cross wouldn't have remedied that.

You don't need to use your gut, 4-5 gets the league MSU & FSU...to get 3 teams in, you'd need 6-3 with most of those 6 by BGSU or MTU flipping 1 result somewhere plus MSU/BGSU going 4-5 in those games.

And doing better in those games to get to the ncaa is the only thing that will change the perception of the league. The league will get there, but 8ts time for the top teams to do it. 2 years ago, msu and mtu did. This last year they didnt.

I can't believe that going 4-20-2 against the NCHC is really going to be a typical. I have to believe that is a one season abarration and not the new normal.

I'm too lazy to do it now... but I wonder what the breakdown of home and away is and if there is any impact there. I'd total 'em up but... I'm at work
MTU Hockey fan since I was carried to a game in 1986 - for those counting... that's a lot of depressing hockey. Still love it.

Any idea what records are against each other since the NACHO split league with us? Like Almington mentioned above, I don't think it will be a trend.
