As does anyone who knows really anything about college hockey. Feel free to ignore the Dud, most of us do as a matter of course. What he doesn't know about things he thinks he knows about could fill the Grand Canyon.
Keep an open mind. Just don't be so open-minded that your brain falls out.

Agree - & this actually makes for a nice schedule # of games-wise (6x4 = 24 conference, 10 non-conf). I have never understood the fixation with the "even" number of teams in a conference. Am I missing something/is having a travel partner really that big of a deal?

It's not a matter of travel partners, similar to the ECAC, but rather being able to have games on given weekends, and bye weeks can create a bit of a league imbalance. If we're going to grow the sport one school at a time, it may be advantageous to have those imbalances because independent teams can get games in February while everyone else is deep into their league schedule.

          Re: ASU Hockey

I have a question about ASU Hockey.

Why does the team's own hometown newspaper have almost zero coverage of this team? As I write this there is not a synopsis for or even a score to be found on their web site for either game they played here in Omaha this weekend.

          Really?

All the coverage I can find about their program is in newspapers in other places. Not where they are. You'd barely know the program even exists looking at their own SBNation fan blog:

          http://www.houseofsparky.com/

And, we're supposed to take this program that doesn't even know where it's playing next year, still, seriously? Nobody where they are even seems to care about them.

And one thing you'll notice: Never a mention of the other team's players. Is this typical across all sports?

WCSN has done quite a lot of writing, including having a trio of reporters/photographers on scene at their away games vs RPI.

Holy god what is ASU thinking? Tickets go up to $72 for a stupid little holiday tourney, in what will be any empty barn... Good luck growing the hockey fan base.

They've been doing it to the Coyotes for years. Print media isn't going to bother covering something that no one bothers to attend in person. You're lucky if you get some bloggers in their basements to write something. The now "Arizona" Coyotes are once again dead last in NHL attendance. Just over 180,000 fans total through the gates so far this year, less than half of what the top teams have drawn (in excess of 400,000).

The shear number of ASU students might get them a reasonable crowd at games if there was even bare minimum interest in hockey . Heck if only 5% of the student attend they'll have crowds of 3500+. Unfortunately right now they are drawing less than 1% of the student body, barely averaging 700 per game.

At least Bemidji has a nice rink and it's about the right size for a college team.

Wind chills will be pushing 30 below, if not lower.
