This upcoming season, I don't believe so.

Colgate's building a new one. http://www.colgate.edu/offices-and-services/information-technology/about-its/naf-webcam#_ga=1.124973454.563966118.1264904973

Site's buggy with Firefox, though.

Roof, walls, seats, walkways, sheet of ice in a hockey configuration.... About what you would expect. /sarcasm

Liberty is building a new rink, leading to some rumbling they might go D1 at some point.

They might have some melting issues without a roof.

My bad! Yes, indeed, that's a D-I rink.

Even though Lynchburg is roughly 3 hours away from where I live in northern VA I'd still be stoked to have college hockey available in the state.

Now only if Navy would upgrade their team....

Now only if Navy would upgrade their team....If Liberty jumps that may be the catalyst for the long anticipated move of Navy to varsity status.

Then Delaware.

Three levels of mens hockey and two levels of women in ACHA... sounds like a lot of pent up unused energy ;)

UConn rebuilding Freitas, but not sure when it will open.
Really??? I have lost track of this since the XL Center has been so unexpectedly good. Can you point us to a URL that says this definitively?

Location of New UConn Hockey Arena Still in Question
BY TIM FONTENAULT • MARCH 3, 2015

Concerns about the UConn Board of Trustees’ proposed location for an on-campus hockey rink have emerged, and another site remains in consideration.

The university’s master plan, as unveiled in October, proposed that a new hockey rink be built on the site of the Mansfield Apartments complex. According to the updated executive summary of the master plan – as updated after the Board of Trustees’ meeting Feb. 25 – the “location and impact of a new Hockey Arena” has emerged as one of the four primary concerns with the master plan.

UConn is still looking at locations for the hockey rink and others, including the Student Recreation Center, according to an e-mail from university spokesperson Stephanie Reitz.

Reitz said two locations are being evaluated for the hockey rink, the Mansfield Apartments complex as part of a mixed-use redevelopment project and I-Lot, the university parking lot next to the Freitas Ice Forum.

The UConn men’s hockey team joined the Hockey East Association for the 2014-15 season. UConn’s on-campus rink at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum does not meet Hockey East specifications.

Hockey East requires UConn to build a new, 4,000-seat rink on campus. In the interim, the Huskies will continue to play games at the XL Center in Hartford.

Here are two other links besides the item just posted above. Sounds like folks are now fine with the XL Center for HEA games, as you suggest, according to the second link. But, still seems to me that the original plan for a 4000- to 5000-seat rink on campus would be more desirable than traveling to Hartford, especially for UConn students?

This seems to be an important clause.

But XL may not have as big a piece of UConn hockey for long. Under its membership agreement with Hockey East, UConn is required to put a shovel in the ground for a new on-campus arena in the 2016-2017 academic year, Enright said. Early estimates peg the size at 185,000 square feet, with a minimum cost of $20 million.

Oh, yeah, that is the status that I thought was in effect -- no decision has been made. I would be really surprised if they tore down Freitas to put a bigger barn there. Personally, I would not be surprised if they do nothing. Now that HE has played at the XL and UConn was right near the top of HE in attendance with their games there, my guess is that HE will tell UConn that they will not insist on the on-campus facility. With the XL, they can get 8,500 into the place for games, 16,000 if they had to. Their average attendance at XL is already over 5,000. Why would they build a new barn smaller than that? That's why they created buses ... so the students can party to and from Hartford.
