  • CBC Hometown Hockey - Cameron and Rattray

The 25th and final installment of the Sunday night national "hometown hockey" broadcast had a distinct "womens hockey element" to it.

Tonight's show, that preceded the Leafs- Sens game, was from Kanata, home town of Jamie Lee Rattray. Not only did they have an extended installment on her, they also showed the story of Kristen Cameron, former coach at Mercyhurst, and Niece of Ottawa Sens head coach Dave Cameron. As many of you may remember, Kristen was hit by a drunk driver in Erie, while she was on her bike. She had a long and hard recovery, and is now playing Wheelchair Basketball, with national team aspirations.

Correction, that's wheelchair rugby, which is new to me.

Amazing story. I think her uncle's comments near the end said it all.

Having done play-by-play at wheelchair basketball games the mere thought of RUGBY in wheelchairs scares the heck out of me! I'm not sure I am brave enough for that.
