      2015-16 Big Ten Watch List
      http://www.collegehockeynews.com/new...watch_list.php
      Out of Conference Play

Out-of-conference play is very important in the Pairwise — the system that determines who makes the NCAA tournament — but it’s especially important for a small, six-team conference. Last year the Big Ten was abysmal in out-of-conference play. While that didn’t factor into Big Ten standings and who earned a Big Ten tournament bye, it hurt at the end of the season.

Ultimately, the non-conference losses along the Big Ten cost the conference another team in the NCAA tournament. Michigan’s out-of-conference record prevented it from being high enough for an at-large bid. But that reflects on the conference’s play against non-conference opponents as a whole.

So even though the Big Ten plays many out-of-conference games early in the season, these contests are key to the NCAA tournament.

Non-Conference .... this weekend thus far

        Overall
4-4-1 - Q plays on Maine on Tuesday

        Against HE
3-2-1 - This weekend so far. Q plays on Maine on Tuesday
        5-4-1 - Overall thus far
(Holding on to .500 ... but for how long?)

Impossible to tell how things will work out. Last year the ECAC non-Ivy got off to a great start and then completely fell apart in December.

We are 13-7-2 (.636) but don't have many AHA teams left on NC schedules.

Next week will tell us a lot.

        2 against AHA
        2 against Big 10
        1 against HE
6 against NCHA (Miami, St. Cloud, Western Michigan)

NCHA is 2-5-2 against HE but 10-1-2 against WCHA and 6-0-0 against Big 10. If we want to save a place at the NCAA table, those NCHA games are critical.

Next week are all ECAC games are league matchups ..... here is where we stand:

                        Conference
                        Atlantic Hockey ----- 8-28-2 (.237)
                        Big Ten -----15-19-6 (.450)
                        ECAC ---- 26-13-4 (.651)
                        Hockey East ---- 29-19-6 (.593)
                        NCHC ---- 25-17-6 (.583)
                        WCHA ----- 12-14-6 (.469)

and we are 8-7-1 against HE

While we look good right now, the numbers are very sensitive and a bad weekend for us combined with good weekends by HE or NCHC can put us in third or worse. Also, the past two years the ECAC has gotten off to a great start only to flounder in December. We will see.

                          Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

I'm impressed by the ECAC early but like mentioned, the ECAC usually comes out firing. Cant pinpoint why that is. We knew Yale and Harvard would be competitive on a national level but Q has asserted itself in that conversation very quickly as well. Im comfortable in saying that a ECAC team will be in the FF in Tampa, maybe multiple. Fun to have the Ivies playing. Looking forward to continued success for the league!

For the 12 teams in the ECAC, there are only three non-conference games on tap over the next two weeks. Q plays Connecticut and RPI plays Bentley and UNH. The rest are league matchups.
